Anyone have any experience with this Eminence speaker? All the reviews I have found are older and nothing newer. I have my eye on one locally and I may pick it up to try in my 62 Vibrolux. It seems like it is an alnico speaker in the Jensen sound spectrum. You all know I am a hopeless speaker snut.
    Thanks John

Haven't had a chance to play one, but I've been interested as well. If you end up picking it up let us know your thoughts!

I have had this speaker for a few days now and thought I would report back. The guy I bought it from ($150.00) said he only used it for approx. 12 hours so I guess it is not really broke in yet. I tried it with several amps with out being in a cab and it sounded kind of thin with no bottom end so I almost didn't put it in my 62 Vibrolux but I am glad I finally did.
The Vibrolux came to me with the orig. Oxford in a box and an older, reconed Jensen P12N in the amp. It sounded great with the Jensen so hence the trepidation to change it out. When I pulled the P12N I found it had been reconed with a molded cone. The EJ 1240 has a ribbed, paper cone with a curved seam and a paper former. This is an alnico, magnet about the same size as the P12N, speaker and was designed with input from Eric Johnson and George Alessandro. Considering the attention the GA series Eminence speakers get around here I thought I would take a chance. My impressions are that this gives a lot of the Jensen tone, just more of it, with a lot of bottom end and clarity all the way up. This speaker is rated at a conservative 40 W and 100 db.
This is my first foray into modern speakers except for some EVs which are not really modern since they were well used when I bought them. I am really liking this speaker and it will stay for a while and get broken in to see if it sounds better with time.
One of my favorite speakers is the Altecs and I have a 15" 418 in my 62 Pro and 66 Ampeg Gemini, but when I put a 417 in the Vibrolux it sounded too much like the Pro. So for now I am thrilled with outcome.
    Thanks John

In short, yes. I pulled it out of my Vibrolux as I like the old P12N in that amp better, I think. The EJ1240 went into my 74 Deluxe for a while but I got a new in the box, Eminence Legend 1258 for $40.00 so I had to try that in my Deluxe. I am finding that I am more of a vintage Jensen fan so I think I will get a 1X12 pine cab for the EJ1240 and keep it in there so I can use it with various amps. As you can tell I keep changing up my speakers so it's better and easier to have them in cabs. I want to try the EJ with my Mesa TA-15 next.
    Thanks John

Cool thanks! Is it pretty loud relative to your other speakers?

Yes I would say it is louder and thicker in the mids than my vintage Jensens. My P12N and P15N are both older recones, one by Orange county Speaker and the other by De Moines Speaker Repair. My 15" Jensen Vibrantos are original cones and sound closer to the EJ speaker. All are alnico speakers. As you may be able to tell I play with speakers way too much!!!
    Thanks John

Hey John...gotta bump this thread, I own a 62 Vibrolux which I acquired a year ago. Been on the speaker hunt since and Ive been considering a Weber 12F150S ?? I'm pondering now whether I should go the vintage Jensen route and be done with it. Appreciate any advise you can offer

I have to say..nice amp. I tried at least 4 different speakers in my Vibrolux and liked most of them including the EJ1240 and it could go back in... but I am a real fan of the old Jensen speakers. The clarity of the P12R just does it for me in this amp. In my 62 Pro I have an orig. cone 15" Jensen Vibranto and sounds just a bit darker as I have said. Now you have to understand I like a clear punchy tone and my ears are 63 years old so that could have something to do with my preferences. I sometimes run a separate cab with a pair of old 25W Greenback or my new favorite is MojoTone cab running a Altec 15" 418. This adds a little girth with out any break up. Too bad your not closer or you could come on over and give it a try. I do run a pair of old NOS 5881 in the Vibrolux since I figure the amp deserves it!
    Thanks John
