I used to have an Epiphone Flying V, was a lot of fun to play. unfortunatley I have no clue what happened to it as it disappeared during a move.
Anyone ever play a Les Paul SL? There is an add for them on Amazon. I am intrigued as it is a relativly inexpensive guitar that looks to be easily upgradable.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I wanted to share. I had a first run goldtop and it was easily the fattest neck I've ever owned. It was truly a baseball bat. I don't know if that's changed, but man it was huge.

I traded it away because I couldn't get on with it. Something about the Burstbuckers, they were a little thin sounding? I actually miss that massive neck.

Anyway, I had a V3 1960 Anniversary that I felt was superior in most respects. Had a thinner neck but superior sound, fit, and finish. Always wanted to try a V1 with the 50s neck...figured it might be the perfect marriage of the two.

    YMMV!

epi guitar 001.jpg Have a Casino Elitist ( Sunburst), nice guitar. Can't get up to high on the neck but other than that very versatile. Rocks in an AC 15

Hey! I was looking for something else, but stumbled across this...

I thought the SST Epis were discontinued, but here this is on their website. Anybody have experience with this one?

Don't know about the new version but I had one of the original Epi Chet SST prototypes. It was ok for the times. I'm sure the newer electronics have to be better.

I went into the local GC today, they didn't have the new SST Coupe I asked about above. I also have been wanting to try out one of Epiphone's Masterbilt Century arch-tops, but they have not and do not have them either. I asked and was basically told that the only Epis they're interested in stocking are the entry level guitars, that they don't stock the more expensive Epis.:( I don't consider guitars in the $500-$650 range to be "more expensive," but I guess they know their business...right?

Epiphone Zephyr Blues Deluxe. I redid the wiring harness with CTS, and Switchcraft parts. Added a pickup selector for the neck and middle positions and added a master tone control. I replaced the pickups with Lollars. About as nice of a Hollowbody I think you could get for $1200 or so.

Ex-owner of this '52-53 Epi Zephyr Lefty. I sold this a few years ago, some might've seen it posted around the internet. If i told you how much I paid for it in 1982 you might be shocked!

Posted in the thread 3 years ago, but the pic has crashed, plus I sold off one. Here's the current Epiphone stable:

I picked up a 15 yr old Epi Les Paul Gold Top 56. Beautifully made and very nice neck. It needed work on the electronics so I replaced everything with high quality components, pots, switch, jack and actual Gibson P90 pickups.

Interesting, the new Gibson P90’s Don’t match the origional Epi colors. I have not figured out what I will do, if anything, about that.

I ordered one of these beauties last summer but couldn't quite bring myself to make the deal, when it arrived at my local store. The jazz teacher, who came in right behind me, snapped it up immediately. About four months later, he received the offer-you-can't-refuse, of an old Gibson ES175....and put the Epi up for sale.

I tried to work with the Thomastik flats but when I eventually broke one, the Ernie Ball's immediately worked better, technically and sonically, for the types of music I play- Western Swing, Jump Blues, early Country. More sparkle and bite. :)

I've never really enjoyed humbuckers- but the 57s in this instrument could finally change my mind. Sweet and clean, with the added airy quality the hollow body behind them imparts. Howls a bit, at gig volume, so I'm tempted to go the George Benson route and slap some clear tape over the F-holes.;)

For an inexpensive, modern guitar, this one really has depth of tone and character. The electrics and hardware are so good, that upgrades would be an indulgence. Recommended!
