Hey,

I have an opportunity to buy what is being called a 1980 made in Japan Epiphone casino, labeled "casino-jhs." I've wanted a Japan made casino for a while and this guitar looks beautiful, I just can't seem to find any information about this model, anyone have the scoop on these early Japanese Epiphones ? Thanks

Here are a few. The current owner says he had purchased it abroad as this wasn't one meant for export, just trying to dig in deeper on the guitar as this is the first I've heard of the JHS epiphones

I have a Mij Casino and it's the same as those pics, nice guitar.
Cool, is there anything particular to this model I should take note of or look for? I've wanted a hollow body that can blues and rock out for a long time and always liked the idea of the casino but felt the accessible ones to be kind of cheap feeling, this looks really cool and promising plus I've always been happy with Japanese craftsmenship, even more so than my USA made at times

Look out for...?
The only difference I can see is the model label I have is Orange.
Just general things particular to these instruments? Perhaps I'm digging too much as I am far more familiar with, say, fenders and squires from that era made in Japan. Just want to make sure the instrument will be worth checking out as is and won't require a bunch of mods to get up to gigging level. But all I've been reading seems to say they're solid, thanks for the input !

It looks like the typical Matsumoko made Casino made in the late 70s / early 80s. They look a little weird to me - the shape is a little off from the original and later reissues - but they're pro level guitars. If you watch Oasis footage from around the first couple of albums you'll see them using the Riviera and Sheraton models from the same era, and the Casino is the same quality.

I have a later Japanese Casino from the Terada factory. It has a tiny neck that took a little getting used to but it's a lovely guitar. Japan definitely gives the US a run for its money when it comes to pro level semis and hollow bodies.

I know this is an old thread but wondered if anyone has any thoughts on what a Japanese Casino should cost in 2022? Prices seems to have gone up and up recently and I’m seeing IBJL going for £2000+ and so what would a MIJ Matsumoku fetch do you think? I know it’s subjective but any thoughts would be welcome as I’m on the hunt for one but don’t want to pay over the odds.

The earlier Epi's were junk. Even though they were made at Matsumoku. Learning curve I guess. 70's era EA-xxx models
