In my opinion one of the most beautiful ballads ever written and back then my introduction to Neil Finn.

It is no secret here on TDPRI that I am a huge Neil Finn/Crowded House fan. But all of us "Crowdies" know Neil started penning great tunes in his days with the Split Enz.

"Message to My Girl" is beautiful song - one of my favorites - both lyrically and melodically. For some serious contrast, check out Neil's ENZSO version.

Neil was in his early 20s when he wrote these lyrics, which reflect maturity well beyond his then-tender years. Simply a masterpiece.

Scope this, I was only eight years old when "message to my girl" came out and I only heard it once but that Piano riff always stayed with me and because there was no internet in those days it took around a full decade that I found out the song's title and the band's name.

By then I had become a "Crowdy" I was 13 when I first heard "Don't dream it's over" and much like "Message" 5 years earlier, it got stuck in my head.

So when I finally Heard "Message" again in 1994, I went "Hold on, isn't this Neil Finn singing this?", so it took me ten years before I finally found out what the song is called and who sung it.

This song evokes strong memories and emotions for me. One of my best friends committed suicide right when this song first came out. Many people have interpreted the lyrics in many ways, but this song always makes me think of my friend's battle with depression and the importance remembering the many great times we had together.

There are so many Neil Finn pieces out there for which I have no words to describe their beauty. Can't wait to see CH again next April.

I know, from the Top of my head I can name so many songs and all of them TOP NOTCH.
    - Into temptation
    - Weather with you
    - Pineapple head
    - It's only natural

If Kurt Cobain was my generation's John Lennon, then Neil Finn is my generation's Paul McCartney.

And this, though I'm getting off track, is extremely cool

I had a boss who had a sample of the piano riff as his message tone on his phone. Perfect.

I can't find anything mentioning an upcoming tour. Do you have a website that has tour dates and/or information? Thanks.

Crowded House are playing Bluesfest at Byron Bay (Australia) next Easter, not sure if this is a one off gig or part of a larger tour though.

I haven't heard anything to the contrary, Bluesfest still picture him in their listing so I'm quite sure he's still on board

    Only 10,000 miles away!

I've been hoping that they would undertake a North America tour. Unfortunately, I've seen no sign of one.
