Hi!
There is a local ad for an Epiphone Sheraton that I am interested to.

I have 2 Dot and I know how to decode their serial # but I don't know if Sheraton S/N works the same way.

My Dots have a letter starting the S/N : S for one, I for the other indicating that both are Korean made. A friend as one with EE ( Chinese made ).

That Sheraton according to the seller have a S/N without letter : 9907xxxx which as per this site http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx
would be a 1999 MIK.

Is this usual for Sheraton?

I am also perplex about the color : Plain opaque Champagne that seems to be on top only (LP Gold Top like)?
Seller said he bougth it used 3 years ago.

Anyone knowing something about this?

Here is the only pic available in the ad.

Thanks!

I think you are OK... It is a newer Chinese built one from what I have seen on the Epiphone Forum. (It's a sub group that is part of the Gibson Forum). You should check them out for serial number help. They know their Epi's over there.

Here some extra pics the seller sent me. I am waiting for his address to go see it tonight.

Hi!
I brought it home yesterday night. I got also a free generic HSC.
Looks, plays and sounds nice.

Still a bit mysterious to me.
Inside tag is definitively from Epiphone. Model is Sheraton without any other specific annotation.

The normal wear marks on it are corresponding to an 11 years old guitar well used but not abused. So I believe that the production date of 1999 is true as per serial number on tag.
No indication of country of production and no S/N on back of headstock. Sure not a Chinese production, looks to old.

But hardware is not gold as all Sheraton seen on web seem to have.
Grover Imperial tuning keys, triple lines binding and different treatment of front vs back/side finish looks like what was used on the Elitist series. But this one has a laminated neck. Elitist specs say one piece.

Truss rod cover is plain. Pickguard might not be the original, looks to new. No “E” logo.

I guess this was intended to be an Elitist but since a little part of the binding near the neck is not perfectly aligned they passed it as a regular Sheraton.

But the top finish of this greenish gold makes it unique among all Sheraton I have seen on the web.

I did not look inside yet. Since I am happy as it is I will leave as is for now.
