Listening as soon as I can get loud- “Gutshot Sheriff “ is an awesome tilts btw
Thanks. Gutshot Sheriff was one of my suggestions for my old band’s name when we were in our primordial stages. It got shot down and we wound up going with another of my suggestions, Hoot-Owl Trail, hence my moniker here. We never really did much but jam weekly for years and played out a couple handful of times. Anyway, I wrote the song so that title would have a life because I thought it deserved it. We used to play it and stretch it out for like twelve minutes. 😂🤣 I just always loved it. The recording here is just me with my old Yamaha AW16G recorder. It was the demo of sorts I brought to the band.

I like the tremolo. How did the sheriff get wounded?

Heres one my wife and I first recording after we started playing again. We were into Les Paul and Mary Ford at the time 2013ish. Gringe at it now though.
I dig your recording! It’s got that “sound on sound” vibe. A cool tribute. As for how or why the sheriff caught one in the gut, I dunno. But he is pissed and off the handle—so watch out!! The ambiguity of why he’s hurt and apparently out for blood is partly why I like the song.

Here is another cringeworthy song of mine I wrote in 2013 after I got a little Aria acoustic that I instantly fell in love with. I recorded it on voice memos on my iPhone, with the phone on the coffee table in front of me, which is mostly why it is cringeworthy. I just wanted to get it down to remember it. It also involves destructive gunplay. 😂 It is one of many songs I have vague plans to re-record some day.

An interesting Mary Ford/Les Paul related story I saw yesterday.

I like that a lot. Great lyrics. For some reason your voice makes me think of Steve Goodman. Excellent vocals.

My friend Ray (who is singing) recorded Einstein of Love on a Fostex 4-track cassette recorder one snowy day nearly 40 years ago. I wrote the song and played the out-of-tune, out-of-time solo.
Clever lyrics!

I had to google Goodman. Just now listened to a couple. For some reason I missed that dude along the way. Some cool stuff. His voice strikes me as rather Willie-esque, and I guess I hit timbres like that through the song. I had no idea “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” wasn’t penned by Coe. Anyway, thanks for turning me on to a cool singer-songwriter I was entirely clueless about.

A composition of mine... the parts recorded by me, in my little "hermit" music room. I sure like it. But my embarrassment is that it (like nearly all of my compositions and recordings) is not a completed piece, it's just a stand alone section.

I can dig it. Unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute -- left all my 4-track recordings behind when I moved to the US.

What the hel?--sounds good! singing, playing, timing, even the phone recording--just the right bass roll off for vocals and acoustic guitar. And funny az lyrics too.
