Just wondering if any of you guys have an old recording you made that you are at once embarrassed by, yet proud of. Share if you do—screw it!! I was flipping through old crap on my phone today and this one I wrote came up from I think like maybe 2002 or so. It’s cringey for me, but I love it.

i've got a couple of songs I wrote, played and recorded (analog) the first year of my career as a recording engineer (1981). They were done in the studio with good mics and through a Neve 8058 console that was my home base at the time. The control room monitors (Altec Time Align Big Reds) were state of the art but not particularly good. I used pretty casual British drum mic techniques on purpose as an experiment but was a little more high-tech on the overheads and cymbal mics. However, any engineer friends who hear them are really enthusiastic about the cymbal sounds, saying they are really present and alive.

I like the tremolo. How did the sheriff get wounded?

Heres one my wife and I first recording after we started playing again. We were into Les Paul and Mary Ford at the time 2013ish. Gringe at it now though.

There’s really nothing left from the 80’s which is when I started recording on a Yamaha 4 track cassette. I gave the machine to someone.

I can listen to myself playing and cringe at any time.
From what I've heard on the weekly 'open invites', your playing is impressive and a pleasure to listen to.

I was given a tape made of 3 sets in 1971 at a gig. We had a decent band but yes, at the same time it's kind of embarrassing. It's kinda catchy and fun to listen to though surprisingly. Balance is better than you would think though it was just done with one or two mics stage front into a cassette recorder. But definitely not great. Our friend who recorded it went on to be a sound guy for some big names and roadie. Many songs are way fast! Not sure what we were high on that night :>). Our bassist was playing "lead bass" the whole night ! I think he thought he was playing in "Rush".🤣 My buddy the organist got it converted to CD.
I don't know how to put a track on here from CD.
There are a couple songs on there I dont even remember ever playing ! "Maggies Farm" by Redbone is one of them.
