Alright, so I'm in monterey this weekend with my wife and I was walking past a normal (tourist trap) store and caught a glance of a vintage yellow fender. I walk over and notice the elvis signature and thought it was pretty cool.

I then realize that the headstock says Squier. If we weren't on our way to dinner I would have dropped in and inquired a little more, like to how they have an Elvis signature (died in 1977) and (to the best of my knowledge) squiers weren't released until the beginning of the 1980s. The body was in perfect shape, not like it was a vintage strat body that they put a squier neck on (maybe they did) not sure why they would do that though.

Maybe I'm just missing something, any thoughts?

You're too young to know this, of course, but the King was associated with banana-pudding-colored Squiers throughout his career.

Did you think the Jackalope and Bigfoot plaster footprint were real, too?

haha, I just couldn't believe it was in the store window.

I think this might be what it was, looks just like it. who would pay $1000 for this?

the Squier name has been around since the mid-60's, but Fender didn't start producing Squier guitars until the summer of 1982. based on the bridge saddles (among other things) i'd guess that that's probably a 90's Squier, maybe even newer. definitely much more on the "fairly recent" end of the spectrum, although i'm not a Squier expert or anything.

if they wanted $1k for it, you're basically paying $800 for an ugly frame and matting, and a copy of a photo that anybody could print off. oh, and a crappy "replica" signature that looks like someone never even bothered to try copying (seriously, i just Googled Elvis' actual autograph and it's way off!)

I imagine a senile Elvis fan buying that for their grandkid, only market for it I could imagine.. probably produced by some home shopping network

See, you're working on the assumption that Elvis is dead. ;)

Elvis is not dead. He's tied up in the back of that store and they have him signing Squiers and Epiphones all day long. However, he can eat as many fried peanut butter and banana sandwhiches as he wants. He seems happy.

You all realize that the listing does not say that the guitar is signed by Elvis, right? It even says that is an engraved (replica) signature. That is like a print of a famous painting. Still stupid.
