I have a show this Friday at a local elks lodge. Anyone have any experience with something like that. What can I expect? Anything weird gonna happen?

I play elks lodges all the time! Great bunch of folks...I'm actually joining soon. They've always treated us really well and if you play over time any you always get paid extra.

Nah the weird stuff happens at the Moose lodge lol. Only way you'll have a better crowd than the elks is if you play for the Masons.

We have a monthly gig at the Eagles....always a good gig but it's members only so the crowd can be thin at times.... We don't care.... We play, have fun, get paid.... What else is there...:)

Yup. Played the Moose lodge in Hoboken and it was weird.
I never saw so many moose heads.

Thanks for all the replies, i was reading something about a ceremony that happens at 11 PM for the members who have passed. Is that weird at all? I like to know my gigs ahead of time, and this one I don't have a clue about.

Usually the order of the day is "don't play too loud".

I think technically the 11 O clock ritual is only in "members only" meetings or gatherings. They've never done it when I've been around.

I've played at a Moose lodge twice. It felt like playing for a family. You could tell that the folks spend a lot of time together. It was nice. Moose and Elk are good people.

I've played plenty of Elk and Moose gigs. Being members only clubs, you really can't do much to promote the gig, so turnout will vary depending on whether there are any special events going on.

The pay is usually good, the people like to drink and dance... and the drinks are cheap!

What kind of elks gig is members only? Every time I hear of one it's someone renting out the hall.

I've played at the Elks Lodge in Seguin, Tx. a bunch of times.
    It's always a pleasure.
    Nice folks, good dancers.

I once played a Moose Lodge and I brought a bendy Bullwinkle and Rocky and put them on my mic stand. I don't know if anyone noticed. It seemed appropriate to me.

Yep.....I'm an Elk, but also played at a lot of Elks Lodges thru the years. First time I played in one, the 11pm stopping for the remembrance was kind of a trip. Didn't know WHAT was going on.
