I just found out she finger picked the guitar with strings reversed. Awesome,

Who else finger picks with reversed strings?

I used to have a roommate who was a lefty-he just took a normal guitar and flipped it. He was a great player and singer too. But man, what a tough guy to learn from! I really had to close my eyes and just listen.

I used to accuse him of playing upside down and backwards.

Eric Gales, Doyle Bramhall II, Albert King, Otis Rush, Dick Dale all play(ed) the same way.

Wayman Tisdale also played his guitar that way. When he played Bass he played it traditionally I believe.

Albert is cool to watch and you can even hear how the upside down guitar sounds different.

Old Elizabeth Cotton sounds cool because she is cool more than anything her upside down guitar adds, but the fact that she AFAIK learned to play without having a guitar of her own is pretty cool.
I'm not sure if she did or didn't have a guitar, but in many cases that's why players learned that way, borrowing a righty.

Plus he rocked a Flying V and smoked a pipe while playing! Now that's one bad MoFo!

I was fortunate enough to see Ms. Cotton at the Philadelphia Folk Festival. I think it was 1985. She died a couple years afterwards.

It's because she's left handed? Why wouldn't she?

He played the guitar upside down but with the strings oriented correctly for a lefty.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression she played with the strings reversed, unlike JH.

Edit: Meaning she played with the bottom E at the bottom like Coco Montoya.

    OK, I will :)

If you play a righty with the strings reversed then it's oriented for a lefty

That guitar that Elizabeth Cotton is playing is a righty.

Isn't that how Dick Dale plays, too? I have enough trouble even watching left-handed players on YouTube, so much so that I often watch the reflection in the mirror next to my monitor.

Ok, we’re talking about semantics. When I say that she played with the strings reversed, I meant from the standpoint of playing lefty. I’m a lefty and if I played with the strings reversed, to my way of thinking, that means the low E is oriented at the bottom. As I said, unlike JH.

She used to set up down on F street in DC in the 70's before she was rediscovered. I used to see her all the time.

Top E is at the Top

seems logical to me as a lefty that plays that way
