I guess this is a good Christmas time topic my young nephew lives with me and his grandparents got him this elf on a shelf book.
I’m just wondering how many parents and other family members out there are scrambling to move the dang thing while the kids are sleeping
The other day I forgot to move the elf and my nephew goes “oh no I’ve killed him” because it was in the same spot. I never read the book to him his grandparents did and apparently if you touch the elf it won’t move or goes away and I guess he touched it and I forgot to move it so he thought it was dead

I bet the people that came up with this made some good cash I even saw a television movie on the other night

Dang thing is a pain to find a “visible” hiding spot

So how many of you deal with the elf

My dad didn't need an elf on the shelf. He had the leather in the loops.

The unmistakable sounds of a leather belt being quickly pulled through the loops is a good motivator.

No way. Not a chance. A total stupid consumer sham.
However, I share my life with a bass player  and she shares her Elf-on-a-Shelf with her grandchildren::cry: IMG_4182.JPG

We call that Elf "Criddle" as per the story -- and I chose that name as the most demeaning of all of those suggested by its inventors.

I HATE that elf, the idea of it, and the hollow people behind it. Bad idea, poor execution, and poorly received by those (i.e., me) who want(s) to preserve childhood as a period of freedom/innocence where children are not surveilled, judged and tattled on by some primitive Google Home. It's a Huxley tale in Christmas form, and I wish nothing but fire and brimstone for every Elf on the Shelf that supposedly cannot be touched. In fact, we start our Christmas yuletide log with a Ronsonol-doused EOTS every 24th of December to mark the occasion.

Thanks for asking and Merry Christmas. LOL

This just gave me visions of when disco died and everyone took their disco albums to comiskey park and had them blown up I wonder if a similar fate will befall the elf’s?

I've never heard of elf on a shelf but there are tons of memes about it.

Hmmmm, That gives me an idea about getting rid of my wife's EOAS. It would be worth a pic for the grandchildren ... when they grow up.

My buddy's Dad did that to him years ago..... Except the fake wrapped present was a VERY expensive (even in the early 80's) BMX frame and the fire.... was his cutting torch.

One of the most asinine attempts at making a point I've ever seen.
He bought him another one shortly after New Year's.

Our Elf wrote my son a note saying he understood he was a good kid and he wouldn't be reporting every little move back to Santa. The whole hiding every day is just a bit of fun.
My son bought it and it makes the whole thing less stressful.

This is great I don’t think I’ve become annoyed enough yet but that’s an ingenious way to not have to worry about it

So I guess the elf has hit Australia I wonder how many nations have this little mischievous devil?
