Got it! Reminds me of that Black Flag "Six Pack" sound. Awesome. I likes it a lot. Has a good ring of craggy distortion if you want it, and well... I need to play with it more, video later this afternoon...

Got it but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. The 45 adapter graphic is just my thing!
Does anyone know if it's germanium? Probably would have have been advertised as such if it was. Can't tell from this:

I would say no. Every germanium transistor I've seen in my life has been something metallic in different shapes or black and shaped like a bullet.

However I see the PCB has, apparently, only 2 trannies, so it's probably a clone of the Maestro FZ-1B, that used silicon transistors anyway.

Sounds very interesting. Anyone know if these turning up in retail shops yet, or just mail order at this point?

Also - is there any overlap in sound between this and a Fuzzrite or Tonebender MKI? I've read that the original FZ1 circuits were the basis for those pedals, and I'm curious whether the Satisfaction will get you into the ballpark for those tones.

(I apologize, I won't be able to get a demo of the pedal up until Saturday.)

But ,yes, there are definitely heavy shades of Tonebender apparent in some of the sounds I am getting. Obviously much of this depends on the amplifier's settings and character, as well as how your guitar's controls are set, whether you are using humbuckers , P-90s, or single coils, or whatever else you have in in the signal. The more time I put in the more I find can be done with this pedal. I can get really nice buzzy biker fuzz on my Les Paul using a blend of the neck and bridge pup, for example. If I lean it more towards the bridge pup, I can also get more distortion like shards, where if I lean it more towards the neck pup, I get that really round hollow lead fuzz sound, like what you hear in a cranked Fuzz Face.

On Single coil I get similar variances depending on how I set the tone and volume controls. On a low output pickup Tele, I get the best range. The brighter you have your amp, the more buzz comes through, in a pleasing way. Your not going to get real-gated modern rips, you are getting really classic sounding stuff. I was really surprised at how good of a distortion sound I could get with this, too. You get a really nice hard distortion sound, good enough for Black Metal or Stoner metal. A pretty mean raw distortion. You got those kinds of options, too. The Attack and Volume work together in interesting ways.

In a nutshell, you get a range of raw distortion to nice buzzy fuzz, depending on how you set the guitar and amp tone. With the Satisfaction I like a trebl-y amp tone mixed with tone factor of zero on the guitar control, to get that David Allan and the Arrows sound. And unlike a lot of fuzzes, this has a good bit if attack in the sound. You are not going to get lost in the wash, you are going to cut right in.

For how simple it is, its impressive and not too noisy, even with a '69 Teisco with ultra micro-phonic pickups. If you like fuzz, especially David Allan and the Arrows biker stuff, you are going to dig this, but it's capable of more than just that. And yeah, it does nail that Satisfaction sound.

Sounds right up my alley, from your description. I'll snap one of these up as soon as they're available in Canada.

I just got one. Played it for a short time on the normal channel of my Bandit 65 with my tele and then my strat. Man oh man it's got lots of treble. Gotta try the LP with humbuckies later on. It's a fun fuzz that's for sure. Good thing my guitars have tone knobs. The LOL was Mike Matthews picture on the 9 volt battery. For $52 bucks I like it. It's got that gnarly, garage tone thing going on.

I think Tele Salivas #27 nails it! ^^^^^

Has anybody checked the circuit to see if it's an exact clone of something?

By the sound it has some Tonebender MK-I flavour, and the MK-I was nothing but a Maestro with increased voltage to get more sustain, so, anybody knows exactly which circuit was the Satisfaction based on?

I just got one and when I opened it up was surprised to see there are unused pads (as seen above) for 2 clipping diodes and a capacitor (even labeled on the board as to their use e.g. <++bass>.

Anyone know why these are there? My first thought was that EHX was using the same board for another pedal but I don't see another in their line that would use this board. So I am concluding based on the labels and full-sized through-hole pads that they are there for hobbyist/modders, which is pretty damned cool IMHO.

The net seems to be silent on this at the moment. Maybe this post can get some experiments going. I hung up the soldering iron a while ago and am trying not to get back into yet another hobby again or I would start experimenting myself.

As it is I didn't like the pedal as much as I expected to, although it's certainly the right price and great for some people, so I will be selling mine.

I also noticed the spots on the board for "more bass" and for two diodes. Anyone have any idea what could be used here? 11 gauge chime in if you can.

I got the pedal just now and man is it bright. Has a good amount of attack in there though. Def has a vintage vibe to it. I'm interested in putting a high cut switch on there as well as checking out the bass and diode mod on the board. I think the yellow box inside is the input cap so I'm guessing that would be where you'd sub out a different cap to cut high freqs. I might email ehx to see what they say about the on board mods though.

"More bass" mod tip below!

Thanks for the tip! I looked it up and it seems people mod the output cap on their diy fuzzrite clones with .022uf caps. Looking inside it looks like what's in there is a .0022 which would be original spec.

Soooo remember the tone cap from your american standard tele that you ripped out and replaced with a .047uf cap of some exotic make? Take that cap and stick it in the "++bass" holes and see what you think. I did. Sounds totally awesome! Super full bass with boosted output. Def worth putting on a switch I think! This puts your old tone cap (.022uf at 250v if it's from fender) in parallel with the original .0022 cap. Dude!

Any recommendations on clipping diodes for this thing!

I figured if a post a quick update on my mods for this pedal. I emailed ehx and they wouldn't acknowledge the presence of these points on the board for mods.

I ordered parts for a three way cap mod for original, mid, and full boost. I also got parts for a three way diode mod.

Off topic:
I was looking online at photos of the east river drive and it looks like there's an open spot on the board for an extra diode for asymmetrical mode. I'm not sure if they are still using the blue stripe diodes in there as some pictures look like they might have switched to something else...

Anyway if I have luck with this mod I'll prob post photos of the process in a separate thread. It looks like ehx are putting mod points on their new boards though, allowing people to get the benefit of cheap, surface mount technology with the potential for modding pedals into boutique land later. A really great idea I think.

The fact he is getting 92% the "Satisfaction" tone on a Strat, where in the song
Keef plays a 24 3/4" Gibson...

I am IMPRESSED!!

(I may get one and I play clean!!)

Probably a silly question:
I spent $3 and got some germanium diodes off eBay and put two of them in the board in the direction indicated by the print on the boards. I didn't solder them, just pushed them in (leaving the pedal open and upside-down just to test the sound). This stopped the pedal from working at all, even on bypass (worked fine after removing them). The only reason I thought this might work was because it does with my Keeley Fuzz Head and the extra caps that came with it. I understand it is not exactly the same connection, but I thought it was worth a shot.
So in order to test out the sound of adding diodes, will I have to solder them in? Or is it possible that I was just inserting them wrong (the legs of the diodes were not exactly even lengths)? The diodes I bought can be used for fuzz pedals according to the description in eBay.
