I've always loved the cocked wah tone of Frank Zappa and have seen several really interesting reviews of the range of this new EHX pedal.
Has anyone actually tried one ?
I'd be interested in your opinions....

I like the idea and am curious about it as I've been playing with a Crybaby circuit inside a "normal pedal" with just a knob controlling what would be the rocker. Anyine has played it?

Is it more lo-fI than an aggressive parametric equaliser setting?

It has a number of lo-fi options (dying battery) that might be interesting to some.
I only have a Dano Fish and Chips and that won't get me close!

I asked them on their FB page what would happen if you plugged a CF into a Big Muff Pi?

They said something like "You know exactly what would happen."

IMHO, EHX pedals are generally kind of extreme for my tastes.
I'm kind of curious if anyone has gigged with one and found the tones usable, though!

In theory, it should work 'live'.

The typical 'c**ked wah' sound gives a mid boost - perfect for cutting through a busy mix.

If you have a crybaby or similar and don't already use it set/cocked, I doubt a pedal would make you use that tone. Easy enough to check if you have one.

I'd get a wah pedal first and see if it's a sound I would use enough to justify a special pedal, you still have a cool wah anyway. I modded my crybaby to give a couple of cool different voices.

I love Zappa but personally I'm not a great fan of that tone if it's overdone.

I would go for the EHX Stereo Talk Machine. It can do cocked wah effects, regular wah (with expression pedal) as well as the best talk box simulation (without the garden hose) I've heard to date. It's a little pricey at $220, but there's nothing quite like it.

As an aside: There's no reason to censor the words "****" or "cocked" in this context.

Or in any context, for that matter.

I agree, although the final arbiters here on that subject are the moderators. :) All I'm saying is that even by the most prudish criteria, "****" has multiple definitions that are completely clean and wholesome. Otherwise, are we prohibited from discussing people named "Dick" also? Or "Willie"? "Rod"? "Peter"? "Johnson"?...
