You've probably seen a few threads from me over the past few weeks about selling stuff online. I've moved about $1000 worth of gear over the past week.

Last night, an eBay buyer purchased a five channel home amplifier I had listed for a specific price (not an auction), and "Local Pickup Only."

    Yea!

Until I see that he's in California. So I sent him a message, hoping that he had a friend or relative near me that was going to pickup the amp from me.

    Nope.

He replied to me, "I live at [street address, town, state]. Where can I go to pick it up?"

    Face palm.

Well, Nashville would sure be a fun road trip! I've taken trips for worse reasons than buying a stereo....

Mmmm, ebay and reverb are a window into the general literacy of the masses.

    Answer:

Meet me at LAX for pickup. I just need your CC# to book my round-trip "shipping" trip to CA.

...thought it might be someone asking how a local pickup compares to the neck pickup...

I thought that meant the seller delivers in his old pickup?

Q: "Where can I go to pick it up?"

    A: "Um...nowhere local."

Did you ask if he was willing to cover shipping?

Like...lost for adequate wording. You know Texan that once History was off school agendas this would happen with more and more and more frequency.

If I am correct Prep Schools now provide the education that public schools gave in 1960. And public schools today are more special needs than anything.

in china, when they execute you, the family is billed the equivalent of 17 cents for the bullet.

I'd say that was a cheap fix.

I sent him a message saying that if he wanted to talk with the UPS store closest to my house, and pay them directly, I would be glad to drop it off there... for them to pack and ship.

I’m not dealing with shipping this amp. It weights 40 pounds, and I don’t have a box or proper styrofoam end caps for it.

I’m expecting him to reverse the payment at some point. I can cancel it myself, but eBay Customer Service suggested that I give him 48 hours to decide what to do.

The funny thing is... I recently deleted all of my debit card and checking account info from PayPal. I just don’t trust them to have it anymore (it was outdated anyway, and I never provided them the updated information). BUT, if I had a regular debit card registered and verified with PayPal, I could easily take his money and claim that I gave the item to him locally.

That's not true at all. To wade into it would be a violation however, so....cheers man!

    So what comes next?
    Cancel the transaction?
Maybe risk negative feedback due to a buyer who didn't read the details?

I've been doing a fair amount of selling recently, and got this in response to a listing for an audio mixer:

I checked the guy's profile, pretty sure he's a native English speaker. I had no idea how to respond. I figured I'd wait in case he sobered up.
