Anybody have any experience with the Slick brand guitars? I dig the looks of them especially the SL60 LP DC body style. Reviews on YouTube sound fantastic.

I had one, it was very poor quality.

I have not seen many good reviews.

There is a Luthier on this forum who said the Slick guitar was the worst he ever had on his bench.

I've heard that changing strings is a PITA due to the recessed wrap tailpiece.

Never played one, but I can see how that could be a problem.

I haven’t found anything more than a mention of these guitars on TDPRI. I have found several fairly favorable reviews online and on YouTube. Could you elaborate some on your experience with them?

If Earl's GFS pickup "demos" are any indication of his idea of what sounds good, I'd rather go with Esteban. (The guitars, not the man).

I set up one up. It was the LP Jr. looking thing, It had some minor issues that needed to be addressed, neck angle, bridge height, that sort of thing, and I wouldn't call it well engineered by any means. But It was super cool and it had a straight neck with decent fretwork and it was light too. Features I liked were a reliced TV yellow finish, chunky raw brass hardware, and a good sounding P90 too. If you feel confident that you can set it up I think they are ok for the money, If you are expecting CS quality go spend $1000 elsewhere. They are cheap imported guitars to be sure but they have style and different hardware options that you normally see, and the one I set up was certainly playable when I was done with it.

Yeah I saw that in one review. They mentioned it was something they were supposedly going to remedy for later models but who knows.

I like the style they put out, and almost bought one, but I didn't feel confident in the brand. Reviews were too diametrically opposed.

There’s one on my local CL for what seems like a reasonable price. I’m just trying to determine if it’s worth messing with or not. I really want a DC style with P90’s. Just trying to research all options.

If it's on the List of Craig, I'd give it a look-see.
irl review will be more satisfying than anything YT/HC can offer.

Please report back - none on CL out here.

    Peace - Deeve

If you do get one, don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

It's a cheap guitar for little money. So the QC isn't going to be great and I'm sure you'll need to do a good bit of work to make it playable. If everything about is right and plays great out of the box, go buy a lottery ticket.;)

The bridge cavity does make it difficult to change strings, so round-over the edge of the cavity with a router or whatever you have handy.

I had one several years ago, and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. It was rough and poorly designed, and you could have sawn wood with the fret ends. Like has been mentioned, the wrap-around tailpiece/bridge is a mess. I did like the "rustic" look, but would NEVER buy another.

I bought a couple sets of GFS pick ups over the years and have been impressed with them for the price.

I've never tried one of their guitars though.

Not so cheap anymore. $400+ on Reverb. For that you can get a new Squier or used MIM Fender.

I have the Slick Bakersfield Telecaster pickups, pretty good. I was interested in the guitars also, let us know how you make out.
