Fifty-five degrees out there this afternoon, so what could be better than busting out some of the herd for a short spring romp?..

Started off with the 1200 Sportster, doing about twenty miles of backroads on it....

It hit 60 here a couple days ago... but that was at night and the temp dropped back into the 30s that day. Welcome to Michigan.

So mine are still tucked away and awaiting TLC. With the auto plants shutting down it looks like I'll have the time to work on them now anyway...

Conspicuously absent from this thread is any mention of JB’s Suzuki GT750 LeMans.

The smell of a dormant two-stroke cooking up to operating temperature in springtime air is not easy to forget.

Today was sunny and mid-40s in east central MO. I would have loved to have my YZ490 again, because even in my tubby middle-aged current form I bet I could point it across the pasture and hang on while doing a roost wheelie through a couple gears.

(And then scream like a little girl, but inside my helmet).

Good for you. 20's and WINDY here today. Plus the backroads are like oatmeal in spots. You sure do keep your stuff nice, John. Ride safe, lots of people out there with their minds on other things.

Nice bikes! This has been the best winter here in years for riding. I haven’t put the bike up for more than ten days at a stretch. It’s nice that I can start shedding layers, though. And with reduction in hours at work, I can switch to my tinted shield, because I won’t be riding home in the dark anymore.

It's still on the lift table, and looking a bit disheveled at the moment.

I haven't done any of the labor-intensive grunt work on it yet, mostly because it's been too cold to work in the garage very much. For the most part, I've just been spending a lot aquireing a bunch of new parts for it, something to the tune of about $3800, most of it filling up a corner of a bedroom.

The big ticket items in the pile being a new, reproduction exhaust system from Delkevic, restored carb set, and a restored fuel tank and sidecover set. There's over $2600 right their...

I'm shooting for a May 1st 'road debut' of the GT750, but it will take what it takes.

The current 'situation' loose on the world, will slow my parts buying to a literal standstill, so my goal is to just get it cleaned up, some buffing done, and re-assembled, using all of my new parts. Next fall, I'll start to tear back into it and take it further down the 'resto path' a couple of notches.

The new parts are drool-worthy. I remember you posting pictures of the exhaust and thinking they looked at least a couple notches above the seam, weld and chrome plating quality of typical original Japanese parts from that era. Those carbs look slicker than new also.

I remember the carb set on my GT380 being a pretty tidy piece of engineering, but they sure weren’t as pretty as those.

If you can, please post video of it running when you get to that point. I would love to see it.

We've had a mild winter here.

I was able to ride 300 miles on Feb. 24. That was a first for me.

    That Thruxton is sweet John.

I've got a new (to me) used 2011 Triumph Sprint GT sitting in a shop in the next state. Haven't even ridden it yet. They might be shut down tomorrow ... if not, I'll be picking it up soon.

I live in Colchester, same as anywhere in the UK though, there just isn't the long stretches of road available here. More often than not I cycle everywhere, still bloody dangerous though.

I’m 6’5” tall, riding a fire engine red motorcycle, wearing a hi-viz jacket. First person who says they didn’t see me gets a punch on the nose. I was strapping some stuff to my bike one January day a couple of years ago, wearing my gear, and the woman loading the minivan two spaces over from me was commenting loudly to her friend that “they shouldn’t let motorcycles on the road in the winter, they’re hard to see, because you don’t expect them.” I blasted my (non-factory) horn, and when she finished her heart attack, I said “see me now, you [deleted] cow?”

I like the looks of that Thruxton, John. I am glad you got a day to break them out for jaunts. I am lucky in that I can ride year ‘round. I just have to decide what to ride.....one is faster and one keeps the old man in better shape.
