A- Hey, do you have Dumble in a box?

B- Why yes we do as a matter of fact, why do you ask?

A- Well, I'd think you best let him out, Alex can't breathe!

I wish I could say that you were going to find the dumble sound in pedal form but the truth is you're not.

dumble in a box pedals are a lie and people who sell them are lying liars.

of the DIY projects out there, I don't think you could build a better jfet overdrive than the runoffgroove umble project ... regardless of whether it sounds like a dumble amp or not.

I know I won't get a Dumble sound out of a pedal but I like what I've heard from pedals claiming to have the Dumble sound.

I would advise skipping the dumbloid/big bloom designs ... they're poorly modified tube screamers that leave a nasty decay to the notes

In addition to the two Guitar PCB Zenith boards (original and Pro - with board mounted pots) mentioned above Grind Customs FX recently released V2 of their FengDrive - also with board mounted pots (both the Zeniths and the FengDrive are 4-pot versions that use ICs in place of JFETs since they are more or less Zen Drive clones). TH Customs makes a pretty much straight up version of the ROG Umble sized to fit in a 1590B using board mounted. I've built TH Customs versions of ROG's Supreaux-Deaux and Tri-Vibe bothe are well laid out bards and easy builds.

I've built both the original Guitar PCB Zenith and Grind Customs FengDrive with slightly different components and like both of them a lot. I added switchable clipping to the Feng which is now accomplished with a board mounted SPDT switch with V2. Grind Customs is a Canadian company if that makes a difference to you.

I agree with ITCRock about the hype but there is a certain sound associated with this family of pedals that a lot of players find useful. The Zendrive has a lot of famous users but, TTBOMK, the Umble is the only one mentioned so far that actually borrows it's design from a Dumble amp. Although I'm no expert on the amps, I own both and get some great sounds out of them.

I think the in a box part might be a problem to get the Dumble sound but you could do what Alexander did and build in all in a box about the size of a Twin Reverb and put an FET preamp in front of a Blackface fender circuit and then meticulously tweek both until the box sings.

The Zen + a Blackface Super is good enough for Robben Ford, per example. I'd go for that one or the ROG Umble (I'll build this one one day!).

If you aren't set in stone on building a pedal check out mojo hand effects dmbl pedal

It has a great tone. But I am really into building things myself. I used to work in electronics and now that I am at management level, I can't touch a soldering iron at work. I have as much fun building guitar related things as playing it.

Thanks for the cue
