I am more than slightly curious about acquiring one of these and taking pictures of my house and myself from above, not to mention nature shots in the park. Any drone suggestions for a complete newbie? Thanks.

Low! Maybe low budget and good results do not go together in this area. Unlike electric guitars.

Well let’s say a new Squier CV is ‘low’ budget. The “CV” of drones, the quality for the buck right now starts at the same-ish price. DJI Mavic Mini for about 325 on Amazon.

You could get something for less than 100 bucks and it will be ok, or it will really suck, and for the most part those won’t have the same ‘playability’ as the DJI.

Admit it. The reason you want one is that the young girl next door's bedroom is on the second floor.

You might want to consider renting. You can get a lot of bang for the buck, and be assured of having the latest technology. You can shoot the daylights out of your house/property for a week, and then box up the drone, and return it. I've done it -- but I can't tell you the fear in the pit of my stomach when the drone takes off, particularly on a higher altitude flight.

A pal of mine has two Holy Stone quad copters. They are inexpensive, and they have a good-quality camera and GPS. I expected it to be a POS, but he brought it over and I was flying it in minutes. Blew me away how cool it was.

It folds up really small. He paid somewhere around $250 (a year ago) for the complete kit with copter, charger, two batteries, and controller in a really nice padded case.

DJI Mavic mini 2, 4k camera 30 minute battery life, under 250 grams (No FAA license required) has a better wind algorithm, really it's the perfect starter drone.

My first though is that you should learn to fly a cheaper model before you move up to something more expensive. Check out Horizon Hobbies for an extensive collection of models at all price points.

A DJI drone with GPS engaged was flown by my 6 YO niece, the only critical thing I would warn about is your "return to home" altitude, make sure it is higher than everything around you.

DJI drones (above a certain price point) will fly themselves, from take off, to where you put a point on the map to landing without you doing anything but push "go".

$6K - You know you want one.

Otherwise some reasonable beginner stuff on Amazon for $59.00

    Drone advice?

Keep it away from my house. I already shot one down. It's kinda fun!

Actually, the way I'd outfit this for my purposes, it would be around 40k.

I’ve been wanting one for a couple of years. I think I’m through buying guitar gear for a while. May need to get a drone.
