Dr. Martens are really comfortable shoes! How did I not figure this out in the 90's?

Back in the 90's when they were all the rage, I had them and hated them! they were expensive, heavy, no half sizes, no arch support, and the laces always came untied!

Do they make a sandal I could wear with socks?

The first person to make a cargo shorts joke in regard to BigDaddyLH's comment should receive the full extent of the mods' and admin's wrath.

Just let it go fellas... :D

Worn DM boots since the '70s, had my most recent pair about two years and they're still in great shape!

I forgot how unyielding the leather is when new and made the mistake of going guitar-shopping in Birmingham in them, rubbed my bloody feet raw they did.....felt like cutting 'em up with the Stihl saw when I got home....that one wear did the trick though and they've been super-comfortable since.

I have these boots too. The most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Just purchased a pair of brown too. Did I say I love these shoes!

These things were like wearing socks with a sole. I wore them back in the late 80's and early 90's. Way too comfortable for sneakers. Had to stop because the police in my neighborhood associated these shoes for "Gansta" shoes and I got stopped a lot.

Love Docs. I have two pairs of oxfords, one pair is about 10 years old and are the most comfortable shoes I own. Wearing them right now, Great shoes for gigging, when you're on your feet all night.
A long tome ago, I was working with a pretty good singer-songwriter and since he was veteran of touring and performing and all of that, I would pick his brain for tips. The two most useful things I learned: Always practice with a metronome and wear comfortable shoes.

In 2003 the Dr. Martens company came close to bankruptcy ...
Because they lost the contract to supply the Post Office. I hated them. Like Redstring says, they cut your feet up at first. They don't adjust to your feet; your feet adjust to them. (Or they did then, can't say about now as I haven't worn them in years). I took to bashing them with a lump hammer before wearing them.
When I left the PO, they were being supplied by Caterpillar, which are the best trainers I've ever worn.

I just recently discovered the benefits of these shoes, since I mostly associated them with violent youth sub-cultures. They're tough built quality wise and surpisingly aren't that expensive (I believe they're made in Turkey now) Still, best bang for the buck and I guess they kinda make you look younger.

I have worn the same pair of Dr. Martins almost everyday for the last 13 years. They are just now starting to come unstitched in certain places. I remember paying around $135 for them back in 2000 and thinking how crazy that was. But for around $10 a year I guess it wasn't that bad!!

I always wanted a pair of Docs, but I was always put off by their weight. Maybe I should give them another try...

i have been wearing doc martens on and off since the 1970's, always the shoes though and never the boots. i have owned black one's, but here in the u.k. cherry red's were simply the colour you had to wear.

Black Doc's can often be an indication of an off-duty cop over here in Blighty. Tend to split under the arch after awhile but superglue sorts them out. Last for years.

There's a big diff in quality and materials between the UK and the Asian Docs. My last pair was the latter and they began to fall apart after 1 year.

I use to wear 9-hole Docs in the 90's, when I was pounding pavement in the city. Currently trudging through mud in Carhartt.
