For father's day, my oldest daughter (21) who lives in China and teaches English there, sent me a little video message. It started with "Hi Dad, I didn't get you a present so I got you this--Happy Father's Day!" and I thought that was the present, a video message. Then she puts down the camera and picks up a guitar and starts playing and singing a song for me. Apparently she has been learning to play the guitar while she has been in China. Now she's asking me all these questions about playing, guitars, and guitar players. Keep in mind that she showed absolutely no interest at all for the first 20 years of her life and practically covered her ears and ran screaming from the room any time I played at home. So that was a pretty neat gift and a great surprise. Secondly, my youngest daughter (12) asked if we could go to the beach. No big deal--we live close by. But, when we got there, she actually wanted to go surfing with me. She has always resisted surfing and now she seems like she's started to enjoy it. She still won't play guitar, though. (But she's a great piano player).
