The wife and I are out of here in an hour or so, heading into NYC to meet up with a friend who is a member at Christie's Auction House. We've got a noon appointment to go in and check out the inventory of David Gilmour's upcoming guitar auction.

Then after lunch, we're heading to the Met to check out the Play It Loud exhibit.

There will be photos. Many, many photos...

I was in the doctor's office Friday, and their TV was on CBS news.....with the "closed caption" function on. There was a segment on the Gilmour auction. I don't know exactly how CC works, but I assume someone is quickly typing as the people are speaking. Did you know they are auctioning off David's Martin "V-35"? I have to think someone said "D-35" and the typist heard "V-35". Doesn't EVERYBODY know Martin models? :)

    If only, my dude.

The thing that surprised me was that my wife said she wouldn't have a problem with me bidding on some of the lower-priced items. The problem was that I really wanted some of the higher-priced items! :)

The Broadcaster and Esquire were just gorgeous. And what surprised me was that between the '58 White Falcon ('The Fred') and the '58 White Penguin, the Penguin was listed to sell for 5x more than the Falcon!

They had a replica of the Black Strat that they allowed people to play. I played it and was surprised to find that the neck was pretty much identical to the Squier Strat neck I've got on my double-bound Tele. I mean, identical.

Thanks for posting. I am heading to New York in October - about a week after Play It Loud finishes. I am so hoping it is extended.

    Great pics!

I hope the majority of the DG auction doesn't end up in a bank vault.

I'd really like to see the guitars treated like iconic violins, benefactors buying the instrument and then lending it virtuoso musicians for a time.

    Unfortunately it just won't happen.
