Does anyone know of a commercially available double amp stand? (A single stand that will hold two amps.) A rhythm player I work with wants to use separate amps for his acoustic and his Tele (can't blame him there), but would like to find one stand that can accomodate them both. I did a little quick Net research but didn't find anything – have you seen such a creature? Thx in advance, CS :)

That's a toughie. Is he trying to save on his footprint or save money? Most amp stands lean the amp so you would not have one on top of the other. If they are going to be side-by-side, he might not get any savings in overall footprint.

By the way, I also did a quick web search and came up empty.

If yer lookin' to go vertical . . .

I've used a keyboard stand: the one that looks like a "Z" from the side. They "telescope" rather narrow, maybe 30" wide. Also adjust in height. Just make sure the heavier of the two amps is on the bottom leaning against the stand!

Go to Home Depot and buy the heavy duty wire rack
shelving and modify it to the width he wants.
Thats what I did for a narrow section of our Mud Room
and it worked out great for bringing in groceries, laundry,
all that good domestic poop. Each shelf could support
a Twin Reverb no problemo. They even have casters for them if he wants to roll it around like they do in all the shops where work goes from area to area.

This is the best idea yet. Those shelves are very strong - I even own a set myself in my garage. The only disadvantage is they aren't all that portable, despite the casters. If you step up in price and go get Metro racks (the original product), you can get them with poles of different lengths. I have a set of those, too, in my house. They are nicer than the ones from HD, much more expensive but you can get shorter ones. The ones I have are about 3 1/2 feet tall. They'd hold two Twins.

Thanks guys.

I'm really not sure why he wants a double stand (or why he thinks he wants one...), whether he's trying to save space or money or both. He sent me an email the other day and I haven't spoken with him about it. But I'll pass along all the suggestions. :) CS

chris here's what i've done in the past when i needed a small footprint and two amps. i put one amp on the stand and then set the other amp on the floor and leaned it back against the base of the stand. it makes sort of a leaning back stack.

That was going to be my suggestion. It might be safer that way too.

make your own with pvc

I had a buddy who made several amp stands himself out of pvc pipe and fittings. They worked real well and the pvc is real easy to work with, light and cheap. His were basically a square frame that an amp set on top of, however I bet a creative person could come up with a design to hold two amps.

What about this?....take one of those hvy duty 2 wheeler shopping carts...make a simple pull out leg...bungie cord both amps on top of each other...lean the whole shabang back a bit...viola!...and it's an easy way to get them into a gig.

I couldn't find any picks on the net...

But you may have a look in the Fender Amp Book (The soul of tone) on page 389. There's a verry need looking DIY amp rig from Clapton during his Cream reunion days. In fact with 2 Tweed Twins. (well, looks like he is a wise man! ;)

Is your buddy using monitors for vocals in your project? A simple Baggs PADI or similar DI/Preamp into the PA is my choice for my acoustic (along with my SFDR for my electric.)
