These guys are one of my favorite bands, and they recently started using teles, they were using les pauls and lp jr's, but I thought this would be cool to post, and hopefully further proof that a tele can play anything! The one complaint is that the singer seems to have had an off night, he goes off pitch quite a bit. I know there may not be a ton of people who dig this kind of music on TDPRI, but I thought I would show it anyway, hope you guys enjoy. Tell me what you think about it too.

Sounds like Post Rock rather than Metal, to me. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). I like it, but the singing was a bit iffy.

As I listened to the OP clip, I kept hearing something that sounded familiar, but couldn't quite place it. Then it dawned on me - Wishbone Ash. If you took a WA recording and played it at half speed. The song structure and harmonies are similar.

I agree with J-man, they would do well to find a stronger singer.

I remember him when he was only John 4.

He sucked when he was John 3.

Neither are my kind of thing, I'm more old school metal, rather than this protracted proggy stuff.

Can a humbuckerd Tele still be considered a Tele? Can't say I've ever seen players like John 5 play a regular single coil. The 2nd guitarist in that band was playing one, but couldn't hear anything he was playing.

Judging from John 5's collection, I'd say he plays a lot of traditional Teles. He just makes his living (and supports his Tele habit) playing harder music.

Bruce Springsteen plays a lot of Teles with Joe Barden dual rail single coil size humbuckers and most people say he is playing a Tele.So I guess its a tele?

this is why I'm kinda hooked on Tele's now, I need to be able to play lots if different styles from finger picky folk to hard rock to country to new wave all in the same show, and still sound credible.

Well if a Tele is more of a culture or sound than an instrument, maybe not. But a Tele body with a Tele neck and Tele bridge but with HB's, I'm not sure what else you would call it.

Of course there are one-trick ponies, sure. But there are many metal players that can play lots of other styles, just not necessarily on stage. Metal actually encourages a pretty full musical education due to the technical demands (I guess cuz of that "proggy" stuff as opposed to the older blues stuff). I don't know of another genre that does that.

You can never hear Springsteen playing either, he's usually got 4 other guitarists on stage…Isn't part of the charm of a Tele that it'll still cut thru?

I was thinking the same. I'm not sure how much 'Tele' is left in that guitar!

It's still a Tele, humbuckers or not.

When multi page threads argue the value of one wood, or saddle, or pickup whatever over another, I'd have thought changing a guitar renowned for coils to HBs would be considered a radical change, as opposed to a gear head obsession with minute detail.

Fender produces it, they decide what is a Tele and they consider that a Tele. It looks like a Tele.

It's a Tele. ;)

Would a Strat be a Tele if it had Tele pickups? Somehow I think not.

Here he is with what looks to be a single coil sized Humbucker, hope you can hear him.
