Hi.

What's the polite way to inform these young gunslingers and not burst the bubble?

Apart from the opening post, I haven't read the thread at all. Honestly, I'm not worried about 'informing' anyone. Instead, I'd treat them the same as this thread, and, in this case, pretty much ignore them.

It wasn't that long ago that most Squiers were real duds, so many folks are just happy that they're now a "known quantity" that they can buy new for an extremely reasonable¹ price, and not feel guilty² about modding it. They're a blank slate, and they can be a great test bed for lots of ideas. My Squier Jag has Dimarzios, a Freeway toggle, and an American Panorama vibrato. My Bass VI has a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Wide Range Humbucker in the middle position, stacked volume/tone controls for each pickup, and stereo wiring. Both have hand-made flatwound strings for special tunings. Guess what the next guy will get if I ever sell 'em: bone stock.

¹ Try not to do the math to figure out if an Indonesian factory worker can afford a Squier on their $1.17/hr minimum wage.

² See note 1.

I have a squire thinline, I swapped the pickups and installed an EMG active tele set on her. I love this guitar and I own a bunch of custom shop guitars, but this thinline just has mojo. I say mod if you like. A Squire no matter what model is never going to have the collectible status of the 50’s & 60’s Fenders.

if you ignore a post of someone who ignores others....will it make a sound if it falls in the woods with no one to see it?

Maybe, because you see a message in the woods that there is an ignored post and it wants to know if you want to see it ;)

My buddy gave me a set of custom shop pickups. Wired them in today... He heckled me until I did.

Much different, way good. The neck is wonderful, the bridge is real big sounding, middle is perfect.

However, looking at the electronics, they're next to be replaced. That's where they save money.

Law of supply and demand will tell em soon enough.
I've read this now more than a few times recently... it will hurt the resale value.
While I consider several models to be superb, especially some Classic Vibes, I tend to think they are some of the best guitars to mod and learn setup, repair etc...and just a perfect platform to experiment with.
But some seem to think it's equivalent to putting an Ebay Floyd on a 50s Strat or a swirl dip paint on a original 60' Tele.

Squier VM Jag. Three hundred clams! Played great out of the box. Not even a setup was required. The Seymour Duncans sound good enough for me. No reason to mess with it. View attachment 1073125
I had one of these, and couldn't stand it. Sold it within a few weeks, rather than spend the value of the guitar again upgrading it. Hot, ice pick sound to me... It gave me headaches it was so hot and harsh... I wanted to love it, but just couldn't.

Pickup a used Squier SE Strat and component swap upgrade as a test bed. One of my favorite platforms to modify experiment with.

I have 3 new classic vibes.
I ‘upgraded’ the neck pocket and neck heel. And get rid of humps in the neck.
That’s before I do the frets n edges. Then the nut.
Then the setup.
Then I sell em to friends for folding money.
Not bad for a young gunslinger.
N the tremolo stays in tune perfectly.

Folks modify even the most expensive guitars dont they!......i kinda of think its best to just let people do whatever they want, if they louse it up, then its a valuable lesson learned, who are we to advise them not to hurt whatever brand of guitar they have.....

I replaced the wiring harness yesterday, it's way sweet sounding.

I been playing over 15 years and am still finding new music, styles and techniques to learn on guitar. I'd rather spend time playing instead of adjusting and modifying. I do my own string changes and intonation and changed out a speaker or two in a amp. Beyond that, I got no interest in working on guitars and amps.

IMHO if somebody wants to be a guitar tech or luthier, yeah spend your time learning mods, setups and adjustments. If you want to be a guitar player, there's enough to learn on guitar to spend a entire lifetime learning, practicing and playing guitar.

IMHO find a guitar that's pretty close in sound, feel and playability to what you like best and pay the premium for it. You won't save any dough tweaking a Squier. New parts cost money. Your time or a techs time is also worth money including the time it takes to install and adjust new parts and fix subpar fretwork on a entry level guitar. By the time you tweak that Squier to your ultimate guitar, you'll have as much money in it as a American Performer or Professional.

It's the old Jack of all trades or master of one argument. I've met a few guys who are good at both, but not that many. You pays yer money and you makes yer choice.

YMMV
