To me its a Peter Griffin song. First time I heard it was in an episode of Family Guy with him singing it to Lois.

To be honest, I don't own a single track by Journey. Other than Hendrix-like chording in Lights I never give their music any thoughts. Steve Perry had a great voice and Schon is a great guitarist but overall, pure pablum. Plus, I also thought Perry looked like he was straining to relieve constipation when he sang.
As for it's meaning at the end of Sopranos, I have no idea.

Are you talking about the beginning of the solo? Wow, I think it fits the song really well, great solo.

The soundtrack MANY bad alcohol sessions. I think I had thrown up more to that song than any other.... so, when I heard it....

No, the fast, accelerating lick after the second verse.
It starts at roughly the one minute mark.
    Wank-fest.
I saw pre-Perry Journey at the Armadillo.
    Wank-fest.
Journey owes their success to Steve Perry, IMO.
Love him, or not, he had a singular voice.
I’m not a fan, but I understand the appeal.
I like Lights way more than Don’t Stop Believin’.
    Way better solo, too!

Oh, absolutely. My GF and I caught them on tour and while I was not a hardcore fan like my GF, I was blown away by the power and pitch control Perry had. This was years before Autotune. Amazing vocalist.

About 15 years ago a pal of mine played guitar on a session to record portions of Any Way You Want It for use in a national Toyota USA ad. Toyota wanted the tune, and Journey's legal team granted use of the song--but not the original song as recorded by the band. So Toyota's ad agency contracted with a studio and my pal got the call. It was difficult to tell it wasn't the original song.

That tune has become the new Mustang Sally for many mediocre cover bands in my area. Pre COVID you could walk through downtown on any given night and hear this song multiple times. Yuck.

    I don’t know what it’s saying.
But I can feel it calling in the air tonight.

If you believe the video for "Lights", Aynsley Dunbar sings background harmonies too!

So the direction “south” doesn’t exist in Detroit?

    How does that work?

Is the south most point of Detroit called “Least North Detroit” or something?

Windsor, Canada is actually south of Detroit.
For Detroit's 'south end', think Zug Island:

hell no we can't discuss it. With the exception of "Francine" (1968?), it's like the never ending/sounding the same songs of ZZ Top. :)
