My mom's basement.
Something funny with now 11+ weeks old dog friend George is she actually likes to get showered or bathed. At full on nutty getting stronger, learning much but junior terrorist age she will dig or be a mess, but actually asks to join us in the shower and is happy to get her feet, face and bottom cleaned.

Wow do I hope this happy to be cleaned sticks. Pretty much every one of many dogs in my life fought being cleaned up or at best put up with it.

:)

I've had dogs that liked their first few baths then hated them. Go figger.

Of course, there are exceptions, but in general, water dogs such as Labs, other retrievers, etc. love water or a bath. We've had Labs that would play in the rain and snow and jump in the stream while washing out their pen.

An old friend had a yorky that would run around and play in their walk in shower as long as the water was on.

My dog (a 115 lb black lab) used to get stressed out by baths, but lately he's decided he doesn't mind them much. He'll hop right into the tub when we ask him to, which is good because moving a 100+ lb dog who doesn't want to go somewhere is no small task! I think he's figured out that having shampoo massaged into his fur is just a different sort of petting, and he loves that.

One of our labs, if you said “bath time”, he’d go get in the tub and wait for my wife to foam him up. He really loved it.

Current dog, not so much. But then, he’s so big I joke he’s half lab half pony.
Maybe the pony part doesn’t like bath…

People keep asking if our dog is part Newfoundland because of his size, but he came to us with AKC paperwork attesting to his lineage. We weren't specifically looking for a purebred dog, we just happened to know someone who had puppies and as soon as we met him we knew he was the one.

I’ve had dogs that hated baths, dogs that tolerated baths and dogs that loved baths.

My Spitz, Suzy Q, loved the water in all forms. At the lake she’d hop off the dock into the water., climb up the ramp, I’d lather her up & she’d hop back in. We’d swim around for a few minutes until she was soap free.

Colt, my chow, black lab mix also loves water. I thought leaving him in the bathroom with the door closed as I showered would keep him out of trouble. It wasn’t 2 minutes before I felt something on le leg that startled me. He was trying to get to the shower stream. Great, I have a wet dog and myself with only 1 towel available. To say the bathroom and about half the house was drenched would be an understatement.

All the Welsh Terriers I have had (5) over the years tolerated bathtub baths with a hand wand.

Same for hairdryer and towel drying. I suspect it is mostly oh well it will be over eventually.

I've owned several dogs and the funny thing is, if I took them to a lake or a pool, they'd jump right in. But when I tried to get them in the tub for a bath, they'd fight tooth and nail to get away.

Our minature schnauzer wasn't too fond of taking a bath. But our water dogs, standard poodles, love getting washed up.

We used to put peanut butter on the shower wall to bathe my Gimble (avatar pic left) because he wouldn’t be happy otherwise.

Also, had to do it for our other two because they would sit patiently by the tub for their turn.

After, Gimble passed we stopped and my other two dogs still like baths even without peanut butter. I think baths just became associated with “good vibes”.

Our dachshund hides when he hears the bath water running but does not fight the process. Once in he enjoys it. He is a short hair and easy to dry. My wife always has fresh warm blankets just out of the dryer for him and he burrows in and snores afterwards. You know how it is. Our dog gets more perks than me! He’s a really good one however. He’s 14 and will still jog a mile with me every day. That’s with me walking at a fast pace which is running for him.

I have never bathed my border collie Ava, nor the new guy Buddy. Buddy has been bathed at the boarding place, and my ex bathed Ava a couple times. Mostly I take them to the pros, because Buddy is still green and Ava doesn't like water. I don't want her to associate me with anything unpleasant to her.

Flash, the black Lab, on the other hand, is pretty amenable. I stopped bathing him at home because it took me longer to clean up the bathroom than it did for his bath. Thank goodness my bathroom is tile walls.

There is a dog bath kiosk about a half mile from me, adjacent to a car wash. Flash did just fine in that situation, except I had to lift him into the basin-- he didn't want to climb the ramp for some reason. Bath went well and cost me about ten bucks. Very well set up, including a ring in the wall to secure the dog.

You can’t talk him up and not post a pic…

Gimble was a dachshund/terrier mix, our Avalon is a Cheeweenie and Winston a short haired Doxie:

My last two dogs were adopted as adults and hated being bathed (and having their claws cut). When we got the current one as a pup, we made a point of giving her baths regularly and messing with her paws frequently so she would be OK with baths and claw trimming. She's OK with the claw trimming but hates baths. She will rush right into a stream, puddle, ocean, or lake, thinks the hose/sprinkler are toys, and doesn't mind being out in the rain, but is determined not to take a bath...

Our last two dogs did not like baths, even the black Lab who’d happily swim anywhere. Our current dog liked it at first, probably because she loves being pet & rubbed more than any dog Ive ever known. Not quite as keen now after a post-skunk lengthy experience, but still ok. If you have a towel in your hands she’ll notice and come over, hoping it’s for her because she sure digs being dried off.
