    Hi Ess Eff!

The guitars I consistently see that have Nitro finishes are Gibsons, usually the Les Pauls.

Can you even buy a Les Paul or any Gibson Electric Guitar with a Poly finish?

Concerning the poll: Finish does not matter to me. My #1 holds that "honor" because of the way she plays & sounds, nothing to do with finish. She would still be my #1 whether she were unfinished, or spackled with joint compound from an old drywall job.

My number 1 (AV '58) has nitro, love it on the body, less so on the neck!

American vintage both. With the strat it makes three. There is no definite #1 among them. FWIW 52 is a “nitro above/poly undercoat" old style AVRI, and the 64 and 65 have 2012-17 “flash coat” finishes … but I am pretty sure it does not matter one bit ;D

Don't mind either, but prefer poly to be honest as it's harder wearing.

All of my Teles have a nitro finish, save one - an Allparts SB DB body. I guess you could call my 52 AVRI "nitro" but it is over a very thick poly coat

I’m one of those snobs that refuses to play on non-nitro finished guitars ;)

    Nitro all the way!

All my instruments are nitro. The tele, the P bass (satin), the 335, and all my Martins. Just worked out that way.

My #1 is a Logan tele with nitro finish.

Electrics number 2 & 3, however, have a poly finish

I only have three guitars now. All nitro..

    '52 Tele AVRI
    '54 Strat AVRI
    Collings D1A

Oddly when it comes to acoustic guitars there's very few, if any, high quality poly finished. I guess you just can't get poly thin enough....

My 1996 Carvin is painted with Imron car paint. The finish is polyurethane. It looks new!

I have 2 number ones... The SG is nitro, and what hasn't popped off of the tele yet is poly.

Poly, since nitro wouldn't protect this finish...

Poly. Count me as believing nitro *might* have some influence on a flattop or carved archtop, where the effective layer is almost 3% thickness. I do not believe it is a factor where the thickness is 1/400 of the thickness, such as with a tele or any other solidbody.
