I am not a big salad eater. Based upon my perception here, I think most of us on TDPRI are not big on salads and are meat and potato kind of folks. I do like BLT sandwiches because they are easy to make. And I usually heap on the lettuce and tomatoes (and use Turkey Bacon) for health purposes as I find that the lettuce actually helps me from feeling hungry. So my thoughts are that it should "count" as eating a "salad". I mean it has the same ingredients as a salad. Salads have lettuce, they have tomatoes, the BLT bread would be comparable to croutons, and people add bacon to salad. Same stuff, different presentation. So can I count it as a "salad"?

It's certainly my feeling that it counts.

A BLT can kill a hangover and provide a suitable base for the next episode of heavy drinking in one fell swoop.

But it’s not healthy and never will be.

What’s bread but just some slightly larger croutons ? Sounds fine to me

We had bacon, lettuce and tomato "salads" just this evening. I like plenty of mayo and Sriracha on mine.

Edit: Thinking more about it, adding blue cheese dressing would definitely make it a proper salad.

Of course, it's just that the croutons are really big.

Hint: If you add a slice of turkey and swiss you have a chef salad.

I think there may be some saving grace having some lettuce and a tomato slice in a sandwich
    - so, close enough to a 'small salad'
    for me!
Now I'm hungry! A BLT is a great sandwich!

There are good salads. I could eat Tabbouleh or Jerusalem salad every day. Stuff with spinach and arugula is good too, especially just with like olive oil and lemon juice. But I wouldn’t opt for those iceberg/Romaine things people give you. I always pass.

I like meat and potatoes, as well as salads and most kinds of vegetables as well. I realize bacon is not exactly "good" for us, but surely the tomatoes and lettuce cancel that out? ;)
I don't want to die having deprived myself of most of life's pleasures. I don't do drugs, and I don't gorge myself on huge amounts of anything.....but an occasional treat of a BLT, and other tasty items are what make life worth living.

The bread is the villain in that meal. Otherwise, it’s pretty healthy stuff. So, do yourself a favor, throw it in a bowl, chop to manageable pieces, choose butcher case, uncured bacon, choose an avocado or coconut oil based mayo, and enjoy your salad.

You know the old proverb, when plotting revenge- dig two holes. Well, when frying up bacon for a BLT, fry up enough for TWO sandwiches.

Absolutely yes! I don't grow rows of lettuce just for traditional salads. I include BLTs and tacos as salads.

BTW, turkey bacon is a fail in BLTs. Just clearin' things up for ya.;)

Is a sandwich a salad? Why even bother having categories if so? It counts as eating vegetables. Good enough.

Salad sandwich? Sliced flank steak, blue cheese crumbles, field greens, on a fresh baked baguette. Followed by cappuccino with an almond biscotti. Salad. Sandwich. Lunch.

Only if you put ranch dressing on it.
