    I learned the M version from my boss who’s a 30yo woman.
    She has two kids.
She also warns me when she thinks there are cougars on site I should watch out for.

No such thing as NSW or is it NSFW.

    Getting back to GIF,
Honestly, this is the first I have known of this great and important debate that apparently has existed for some time.....
And now the technologies creator is informing us we have been pronouncing it wrong?
i for one wont stand for it! He is the one who is wrong!

From someone in the early years of such stuff in Silicon Valley, it is "Gift" without the "t", but if you are applying for a technical job, I would recommend pronouncing it as "Jiff" like as in peanut butter. Otherwise, they will know how old you are without bending the laws and asking and hence, no chance on getting hired.;)

In my experience, it doesn't matter how you say it, someone will "correct" .you either way.

    That I know (I am a foreign language teacher ;) ), but...
Western branch... « gift » is from old Norse (Northern branch).

Anyway... general pronunciation rules is /j/ in front of I. Hard /G/ is exception.

Being Western European, I (and most of my friends, including programmers) say « JIF » :D... but being an acronym, it’s hard to apply proper phonetics rules.
