I'm going to replace the in and out jacks on my FX102 Mystic Blues and play around with the input and output cap values a bit. May also see what I can do to the High control component values. With it all the way down, it still is a very bright pedal.
Not sure how durable these DOD circuit boards are, but I'm hoping I don't destroy it with my soldering iron.

Need to wake up this thread!

Does anyone know if there are worthwhile mods for the FX102 Mystic Blues pedal? I'm fond of old DOD stuff for some reason. I have a Milk Box and a FX64 chorus and just grabbed the Mystic Blues from GC for $26 shipped!

I bought a Mystic Blues at a pawnshop years ago. For a long time, I used it as a clean boost with the gain all the way down and the volume way up. It was the one sweet spot I found in that pedal, but it was sweet indeed.

Never did like the sound of it with the gain up, so if there were some mods aimed at reigning in and smoothing that gain, I'd be interested too.

I have used a Milk Box ever since buying it new a long time ago. I'm sure there are better comps out there, but the MB does what I need it to do and sounds great to my ears.

Stereo phaser that I play around with every once in awhile, but there is a nasally sound quality that keeps it off my board and on the shelf.

YJM 308 is a really good od pedal. I wish I'd bought more than one when GC was closing them out for $19.99.

I have the FX56 (I think), the 'American Metal' pedal. Got it cause it was too cheap too pass up. It works really well it in certain situations.
But my most recent acquisition was purposeful. I've been hunting for an FX90 finally found one in like-new condition.
I really love it! Came with the box too!
Getting used to the control set, quite a bit different than my mainstay for the last 30 yrs, DD-3.
I'm really pleased with the tones, and ease of use.
Now I'm looking for the Chorus from the same series.

The fx90 delay is analog, right? I've heard it sounds pretty. nice.

I bought an fx75b flanger off ebay recently. Very cool. On reading about flangers, I heard that placing it first, before any gain pedals helps keep it more subtle. That's where it is on my board now, right before my fx84 Milk Box. An eq with the upper frquencies brought down a little helps smooth it out.
I used it today at my church gig and just left it on the entire time. I've noticed that on single note lines, it sits back and is hardly noticeable. Hit a full chord and the flange blossoms. Still, given that no one in the congregation is a guitar player, I doubt they even "heard" an effect, just the movement and extra dimension that helps my solo tele sound bigger.

I'm expecting an fx10 bifet preamp in the mail anyday now. That will give me an excuse to bump the DOD club thread back to the top in a day or two.

I just got an FX-17 Wah-Volume. I like the sound. I find it to be musical to my ears. It also functions as a voltage controller/expression pedal, but I haven't used it like that yet. As it is, it's my favorite wah.

FX10 BiFet Preamp

After a couple of weeks with it, I'm keeping it on my board.

So now, after the Boss Tu2, my next three pedals are old DODs~flanger,MilkBox comp, and FX10. My board is becoming the anti boutique board. Or as the punk kids say, old school.

Never say never, but for now, I'm done buying more and more boost and od pedals.

Looks like I'm on my way for an all DOD board. I've got the FX75C Stereo Flanger and the FX84 Milk Box Compressor, with an FX65 Stereo Chorus on the brown truck heading my way.

There will be a Morley volume/wah, and I might go Digitech or Hard Wire (Still in the family though) for a delay. But I'm going to try and go DOD for everything else just to be silly. The thing is, I'll be spending less and sounding just as good as lots of other folks with other choices.

I've had a few in the past. Liked most of them.

The only one(s) I really dislike was the "Ice-Box" Chorus. Sounded like the one in the video in this thread. It sounds incredibly nasel-y to me, and it just sounds so fake I can't stand 'em. Sounds like Fran Dresscher in a chorus pedal if you get my drift.

Had a "Milk Box Compressor" that I really liked the controls and the warm sound of it. It started picking up two-way radios communications tho and injecting them into the PA system at the church where I played (Fire house across the street.) That freaked me out so I quickly sold it and got a Boss CS-3 instead. Then I found out the Boss was capable of the same neat trick. Rat-farts! I'll buy another Milkbox someday if I run across one.

Currently I'm running a DOD DFX9 delay. Nice warm repeats (for a digital delay.)

I like to use it when stacking delays for ambient swells 'n stuff. I stack another delay pedal that self oscillates easily behind the DOD. The DFX9 tempers the tone of the more digital sounding delay.

Just picked up a DOD 250 (one of the recent reissues). Had a quick 10 minute try-out at home. Excited to try it live & in the rehearsal rooms. Report to follow....

dod fx90

hello guys, recently bought a dod FX90 on ebay with the wires connecting the circuit board desoldered, then searched on the internet for the scheme, but only found a previous model, .my fx90 has 10 transistors, so I decided to use this scheme, but still not working., since replacing. ci's: mn3005, sa570n, mc14007u. and only passes the clean audio without delay., my neurons will explode from trying to make my fx work again without success. Please, if someone who has a sweet heart can help me I will be most grateful. Thank you. Booneash.

I've been using a DOD 280 compressor for a while now, it's one of the 90's reissues and it's one of the nicest compressors I've used. It's a very musical little box, with a lot compression available. With the Comp maxed out it works almost like a volume pedal, with the sound coming in after the note has been struck. The release time must be quite long 'cos it only affects your initial attack unless you play slowly, in which case you can get a smooth organ like feel to notes as they ramp in and then hold for a long time.

Previously I was using two Dyna Comps to achieve the sound that this single little orange box can put out.

I started out with one of the 2014 reissues which has LED and a standard 9v input and that's a nice compressor but I was interested in what the original was like. The newer version has less obvious squish (though still high) but is a slightly more sparkly sound. The older version though is everything I like about compression as an effect. I've just sought out a second one as a spare, I like it that much.

DOD make some wonderful pedals and all the Digitech reissues are great value.

Picked up a DOD 490 Phasor. I didn't need another phaser but all the pedals in this series that I've tried have been very good so I thought I'd take a chance.

Phasor490.jpg

It's slightly unusual in that it's two controls are Speed and Regeneration. The Regen control if turned off leaves the pedal sounding somewhere between a Phase 45 and Phase 90 Script, namely a warm, quite gentle phase but stronger than the 201. Most two knob phasers I've come across would have Depth as the second knob but the Regen control adds a different flavour - more cutting and defined with a touch of treble in it. I like it very much.

I have an FX-17 volume/ Wha and 0-5v control voltage pedal, built like a tank I love it and it out shines the crybaby IMHO , what the manual does not tell you is you can adjust the sweep function through two tiny ports in the front of the pedal. it works on an optical switching instead of a pot , so it never wears out from over use.

I own a reissued Phasor 201 and I love it.
I was thinking about buying a vintage Phasor 201, but I don't know how much difference I will hear.
Any user here?

Boy was I wrong!

Yesterday, I picked up an early 90's (I think 92) DOD DFX9 Digital Delay on the cheap at my local shop.

PREFACE: I have, (somewhat) understandably, always been an "analog snob"- my first delay was an EHX Memory Boy and I just never had any desire to try something different (than analog) after that... When you've found a good thing, why look for something different.

So yesterday, when the immaculate DOD FX90 that I had planned on purchasing ($100) crapped put mid-demo, I grabbed the beat up DFX9 ($30) sitting in the case next to it- just for kicks. I mean, I already knew that it was going to sound sterile, blande, cold, robotic, lackluster, etc. etc. - all digital pedals sound this way - everybody knows that...

WRONG!

This thing sounds awesome!!!! It's not the wooly, chunky sound of an EHX Memory Man or a Moog MF Delay; nor is it the precise, clear sound of TC Electronic Flash Back or a Boss DD5. It's an entirely different beast altogether- round, bold, synthy with grin-evoking lo-fi bit decay reminiscent of the few seconds of fleeting noise when pulling the plug on an original Nintendo while playing Duck Hunt!

There's been a huge surge in boutique "lo-fi" digital delay pedals in the last couple years (Alexander "Radical", Caroline "Kilobyte, Escape Plan "Fuzzy Memory" - to name a few) and after 24 hours with the DFX9, I can see why!

I'm planning on opening it up this evening and playing with the trim pot values... Not because the pedal needs to change in any way, but just because I can.
