Hi guys, I just bought a very little used 280, new model. It sounds great but when I switch it on, it makes bad crackling noises, that fade away after a little while. What do you think?

Does it do this when you switch it off also?

Does it make these noises when you jiggle the cables plugged into it?

How about if you jiggle the stomp switch?

Don't press it, just see if it or the moving part is loose and makes that noise.

'crackling' is quite often a bad or dirty connection.

Thanks man. I will do more inspections. I have feeling it needs more electric power than an overdrive

I have four pedals in this series and the only one that I bought used had some switch issues briefly. It was the OD-250. Was playing it onstage once and when I clicked it OFF my entire signal went dead. Turned out it was the switch. I simply sprayed the switch with a little de-oxit then put it on the floor where I cycled it ON/OFF about 50 times. Problem solved. Hopefully that'll work for you, too.

Hallelujah! It’s healed. I put it on for a couple of hours and kicked the switch many times. The sound of that thing for Slideguitar is amazing. Instant Lowell George sort of.
