I don't. Mostly when I practice I'm learning songs that I'll play live or record. It is more important to me that I can lock with my drummer ... I tend to give him the beat and play around him a bit.
When I'm tracking something by myself, I record to a click to keep me honest though. That is a skill unto itself...
Wayne's a favorite of mine and his bands are always locked in.
For a metronome that has a headphone jack, the Boss Dr. Beat DB-30 is the fairly basic, inexpensive model of their metronome line.
jbdrumbo I wonder if it can be jacked into the amp so that bass & metronome are listenable together through earphones. Looks like the best thing I have seen in my price range. Take care. Bob
On exercises I'm trying to build up speed on, a metronome is a must: gradually increase the tempo as you repeat it.
I can't stand too much beeping, though, so I usually set it to just beep on the 1.
