I was taught at an early age that if you don't do the small things how can you be expected to do the big things.

yes it keeps me from climbing back in it bec I dont want to make it up again.

But there is another REAL reason. My cat has thrown up in it and I didnt see it...ughhhhh ewwwwww wet smelly tuna in my bed . Now if she tosses her mahi mahi back up I can see it and dont roll around in it first

Sometimes. My partner likes to sleep later than I do, and if she leaves it unmade - well, I've learned not to sweat the small stuff...

Pull the blanket back up to the top and straighten things up a bit, usually.

Properly make it? Like corners, tucked in sheets, tight blanket? Never again for this old Marine.

Do I pull the blankets back up in some semblence of neatness? Sure. Do I actually "make" the bed? Not since I lived with my mom, 55+ years ago.

Yes. It’s an old habit from the Marines. I don’t feel right if I don’t do it.

My father is an old Marine and taught us kids to make our beds so we could bounce a quarter off them. God bless him.

It's the first achievement of the day. I have to do it.

nope, it's just going to get unmade again. definitely advisable to clean the sheets more than i do though.

but tbh i don't like that discipline talk. it's good to have discipline and self-determination in your vocation or other life affairs, and i am somehwat fascinated with people like that. but plenty of the kind of people i know who are overly concerned with "everything in its right place," like my father, with things like bed making...have nothing to show for themselves with accomplishments other than a stupid pride in that sort of fussiness, i.e. "empty desk is a sign of an empty mind." i don't think there is any correlation either way to doing great things.

A formal bed making? Not really. Too many years of waterbeds with those wonderful sheets that require minimal tucking have spoiled me

If I’m ever single again I’ll have another waterbed.

Last one out of the bed makes it. That's the rule. Yeah right.

Now that I’m retired, I’m almost always the last one up. I pull up my blankets and place my pillow. My wife has her own blanket that she curls up in. I fold hers and leave it on top if one of the dogs isn’t sleeping on it.

OK, no, and I will explain why

We live in our son's apartment now
and my wife ( disabled/diabetes) needs to keep her heels under pillows in her recliner, that is her bed.

So my queen bed is where there is supposed to be a dining room table.
I sleep there along with my SG and a plastic storage bin on the other side!
( space is tight, but we figure it out)

I just have a fitted bottom sheet and one thin blanket which I just fold up.

I get the concept of “winning a battle” to start your day. however, I view making the bed as a waste of time so for me it’s a net loss.

I prefer ice cold showers in the morning. Same idea but with multiple physiological benefits.

there is merit to applying discipline and discomfort to your daily life but I’m not into doing pointless stuff.

I get up a lot earlier that my wife so it's last one up makes the bed.
