Drinking water from a creek ? It might not be that safe if there is a carcass of whatever animal up stream. Or that is what i have heard.

Simply the best from upstate NY. There is little problem finding the still water. When we find sparkling, we buy everything in the store. At Whole Foods (paycheck) prices.

High Dive is also really great. But it is terribly difficult to find.

That's my choice, when I do drink mineral water. Found it via a German friend. It's a liquid punch in the mouth.

I would offer that the plastic bottle the water came from does more damage to the environment than those 20 ounces of water helped the person who drank it.
Our new water fountains at work, now called fill stations, have a water bottle filling feature which tracks & displays how many plastic bottles were kept out of landfills. In Oregon, that bottle is good for 10 cents deposit, but not all get returned.

I feel so lucky to live where I do in Upper Franconia (Northern Bavaria). We get our tap water from a large resevoir in the mountains and it really is excellent quality right out of the tap. I don't need the carbonation but we use a Soda Stream to inject CO2 and make our own bubbly water when we want it. It's quite soft and tastes really really good.

But the very next town over is on a different water mainline and their water is brutally hard. Houses without a water softener get big problems with lime deposits, and the water just tastes bad.

So, to the bottled water, the main brand here is "Bad Brambacher", which comes from a spring in, uh, Bad Brambach, about a 45 minute drive from me. It's good stuff, I think. And the bottles are re-used. When we buy a case, we pay a pretty large deposit on the case and the individual bottles, then we return the whole thing when it's empty.

I was surprised to see Gerolsteiner in this thread. Didn't think it was known outside of Germany. That's very mineral-heavy water, we'd call it "healthy" and mean it a little ironically, haha, meaning it tastes healthy. But it's high quality natural mineral water for sure. I like it!

My favorite mineral water is Coke

Unflavored fizzy water tastes like aspirin

We have a fancy countertop water filter that does a real good job on our city water; gets all the chlorine out of it. That’s all I need really

There's a magical place near me where there is an iron spring, a sulphur springs and a magnesium spring.
The iron and sulphur don't do it for me, but there's something really amazing about the magnesium. We get it right where it comes up out of the ground.

Growing up, we had a well, and there was a fair amount of sulpher in the water. Gave it an interesting smell and flavor. Kinda lost interest in minerals in my water after I left home.

My favorite it's Topo Chico of course. Back in the day I had a girlfriend that lived around the corner from the bottler. Good times.

For a hangover there's nothing better than an almost freezing Topo Chico with a bit of gin and an aspirin, that'll keep you going.

My family took a trip to Bradenton, Florida in the mid '80s to visit my nephew, his wife, and new baby girl. They lived in the outskirts of town. The thing I remember most about the trip is the smell of rotten eggs coming from the tap water. You couldn't drink the water but you could bath in it. They had to purchase bottled drinking water.
