I do sometimes play with my eyes closed. It is an interesting experience. Tom Bukovac got me thinking about it. When you 'shut down' one sensor (eyes) you become more aware about other sensors - what you hear (ears) and what you feel (fingers). And you start playing a little differently, more feelings go into playing. You make every note count...
    Anyway, try it :)

Not with my eyes closed, but I do enjoy chilling out with my parlor guitar in a pitch black-ish room sometimes.

The drummer in my band likes to get us to rehearse in the dark.

That's because he thinks you're all ugly.

I like to close my ears when I'm playing....and that's the advice I also give others nearby.

If I'm feeling pretty zen, I may close my eyes to embrace it. It usually happens during a repetitive bit of improv.

At times, yeah.....at other times, I stare off into the void my eyes focusing on nothing...other times I look at my wife, who seems to enjoy most of my playing (thanks to an attenuator)....and, yeah, there's times when I look at the fretboard and/or switches/knobs depending on what I'm doing. Am a play/stay at home player, anymore, don't have to worry about eye contact with listeners (other than my lady love)

Sometimes I close my eyes. I’ve noticed that I don’t have to look at the fingerboard as much as the years roll by.

After 43 years of playing (hacking), something should start to click.

I think I did it more when I was trying to learn the fretboard and develop muscle memory. That and getting rid of those colored stickers.

not too much, i just stare off blankly instead - usually up and to the left, or down and to the right. i guess closing my eyes would be a less awkward move, haha.

Playing classical, seated, guitar locked in place between right elbow and left leg, sometimes. There are no position markers on the neck anyway.

Electric, trailing cables, standing up - not sure I'd risk it.

Yes, as a conscious tactic if I’m not playing as well as I’d like at a gig. Either looking at the fretboard or being distracted by something going on at the bar can pull me out of the zone. Closing my eyes is like a mental reset.

    Yes.
Usually only when I am alone.
It is incredibly meditative for me.

I doubt it, but I really have no idea if it ever happens or not.
