Noticed several small paint nicks. One on the bottom side of the neck in the pocket and one around each pickup. They don’t bother me immensely, but it was advertised as like new. I don’t care to go through the hassle of returning it if it comes to that, but am I crazy to ask for a partial refund?

It’s only a Squier Cabronita. Would have been $400 new, got it at $350 shipped. Wouldn’t bother me if it hadn’t been advertised like new.

The important question to ask is, does it play well? Guitars are not all the same...despite cnc machines and modern assembly line methodology...

These 'luthiers' are not all the same, timbers vary in density, resonance, etc. There are tolerances in pickup magnets etc that make one guitar a totally different instrument from the next one...Same brand, same factory, same color...completely different instrument.

So...If you are NOT happy with the way it plays, rings out, fretwork, etc...then ask for a replacement.

If you are in love with the instrument...maybe bring the workmanship issues to the retailer's attention and see what they can do for you in terms of compensation.

Maybe they give you some strings, a gift certificate, or some money back...Although that looks like factory workmanship, not retailer abuse.

It plays great, sounds good. Frets are done well. Finishing a setup to my tastes now.

I agree it looks not to be something the seller did. I just would have a hard time selling it as new knowing that those paint chips are there.

OK, if it's sold as "new" and you're not happy with it ask for some support. I don't know where you got it or what protections you have. Good luck. Cabs are cool guitars so congrats.

That's probably how it left the factory.
How would playing have made those tiny chips?

    I vote nuts.

Well remember, "new" is not the same as "like new".
Would you sell it claiming it was new if it had no tiny chips?

It wasn't sold as "new", correct?

Was sold as Mint on reverb. I’m leaning towards just letting it be. I got it set up and intonated it honestly plays great and I can capo anywhere without retuning. Probably just my ocd, and I’ll never look at them playing it anyway.

Like new and "new" are completely different. Like new indicates to me that it is pre owned and not subject to how it left the factory. Anyway, you will get nicks a scratches on day one so don't worry about the nitpicky stuff. How it plays and sounds is what is important.

Then you can paint your nails the same color. That will have everyone's focus and they will never notice the chips. :)

If someone sent me a guitar that was "Like new" or in excellent condition I would not be agreeable with scratches, nicks, chips or dents. Living with it or doing something about it is your choice.

Small bits of damage like that are, to me, the day to day life of a guitar. It hasn't been abused, they're just small things that happened even if it never left the bedroom. No one is going to notice but you, I don't think. I personally wouldn't do anything but it isn't my guitar. It's up to you. I've purchased new guitars with more nicks, though.
