I cut most bread out of my diet long before I started keto so that hasn't been much of an issue for me. I've tried some of the keto breads and buns that are available, but they're expensive and not that great.

Fair enough thanks!

The “carbs are all poison/avoid all carbs” thing is hoo-hah.

You read it here first !

Relatedly, any diet that warns against certain fruits and vegetables is also - you guessed it !

Calories are calories, but it’s easier to overeat carbs, so it’s helpful for some people to treat them like dessert or cut them out entirely.
Long term, once the weight is off, a moderate amount of whole grain carbs and legumes is the healthiest way to get energy and protein.

Habits are hard to break!

Snacking you maybe want to totally eliminate?
Basically you need three meals a day, not 5-10-20 or however often the snacking all day ends up.
For me I need to go to a zero number with stuff like snacks or desserts etc, moderation like "I will eat half of this delicious thing in my hand", NEVER WORKS!

I do get the no time for lunch at work, used to eat lunckmand keep working.
But if you have "time" to snack at work, just shift it around and eat one sensible meal you brought with you, and do not bring anything else to eat.

I also eliminated dinner or night time carbs, pretty much, I get more meat or fish with dinner though so tasy enjoyment is not gone.

Take something away, replace it with something just as good or better just not carbs sugary junk food snacks.

Another trick that may help is do not buy any foods that have a list of ingredients.
Buy meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, and carbs that all just the single original thing like a potato or a salmon fillet etc etc.

typical 'diets' don't work for most folks because they are a transitory thing. It has to be a permanent lifestyle choice.

Will power works for me because if I gain weight, I'm the dum bass and it's my fault.
Funny but one thing I told myself is no new pants with a bigger waist, if my pants get too tight I gotta go uncomfortable and starve until they fit again!

Really not that crazy since there is no way to gain several inches on my waist over night. As soon as they are too tight, toughen up!

Amish communities are very near where my mother lives.
You take a ride up there and you'll see somehow those folks lack that "fat gene"
:)

it's one of the societal prices of "progress"
Progress

Sounds like a joke but really the idealization of "luxury" and leisure really has been harmful to health, the environment, the class system economy, and even quality of merch formerly made in the places the merch was sold and used switching to being made in cheap labor countries for the sake of greater profits to increase luxury and leisure for the landowners. AKA corporations and their lackeys.

Calories in-calories out

You can eat what you want as long as you burn it

As others say most diets are unsustainable, just eat a well balanced diet and eat within your caloric maintenance range once you’ve reached your goal weight

Of course you’ll have to eat less calories to lose but you don’t have to do any crazy new age stuff

Not 100% certain but I suspect all the fad diets, diet products, and general corporate promotion of diet being somehing you need to pay an overlord for, probably makes it harder to manage, not easier.

It's all about lifestyle. The statistics vary but many studies show that a majority of dieters regain the weight they worked so hard to lose.
So it's not about choosing a diet but a change in habits, expectations regarding food, attitudes (re: gratification) plus regular exercise. It's difficult to keep weight off unless you change the way you look at food and eating, find your sweet spot for the foods and portions you eat.
Exercise and fitness is a habit and can be dependent on your overall health and age.

My neighbor, who is two years younger than me. (both in our 70s) He is in much better shape than I am. He assiduously watches what he eats (no red meats, fried foods, sweets) etc. He works out three times a week and walks 1-2 miles at the Mall every day. He is constantly kidding me about my dietary choices. I have two bad knees so don't get much exercise and I could not stomach the diet he follows.
However, I could ride my bike and be more selective in the foods/portions that I consume. On the other hand I have lost over 50 lbs at least 5 times in my life only to eventually gain it back. At my age, I've tossed in the towel.

Good luck to you.

Some of them help for some people, but they are not sustainable.
I’m for almost anything that works as long as people realize the lifestyle changes that are necessary to maintain a normal body weight.

Hey now… nothing wrong with leisure as long as you’re getting some exercise and everyone is secure. Everybody needs to slow down this stupid rat race of selling pretty crap to each other and spend more time with family in recreational and creative pursuits.
