On a similar note, I'll be checking out CL for great guitar or amp deals and the wife will come up behind me and say "I really like that rug", table, desk, etc...... LOL
Yes Dear, it really makes that Tele look great !

I think feet in the picture are much more interesting...

This is hilarious! I never really noticed this before.....you know, it makes looking thru craigslist a lot more fun.... like bird watching, and seeing a rare species....

I guess the other question to be asked is...in Craig's List ads for laundry baskets and clothes, are musical instruments often in the background?

I looked through 100 Milwaukee ads and we are having a good week.......nothing gross.

It is so weird (I think) when someone is trying to sell something and they display it amoung filth. I don't want to judge but if you you don't look after your home then you probably don't look after your things either. I'd like to buy things that were well cared for.

The worst gross photo that I ever saw was a Guitar on the edge of a bathroom sink leaning back against the bathroom mirror and you could see dry toothpaste spit in the sink and the reflection of a shirtless fat guy within the camera flash that was blasted into the mirror.

It can't be that hard to close a solid door, lean a guitar against it and take a photo.

Having dabbled in online dating I've noticed some woman that post selfies with a dirty house in the background. Or my favorite, use a dirty bathroom mirror in a bathroom with piles of clothes all over.
On the other hand I ain't exactly looking for a house keeper. My exwifes were and they kept the houses !

I thought this thread was going to be about the sale of soiled clothing online: a business I keep meaning to enter into as an easy profit and a saving on laundry costs

However, as much amusement as I get I am reminded of my childhood, where me and my sister were laughing at a strangely dressed family acting odd

My mum came up to me and slapped me really hard, saying 'never laugh at someone because they are poor'

These people, if they had the money and education to realise a tidy picture would make them more money, could no doubt put clothes in a laundry basket. They're guitar owners in a mess probably selling their favourite toy

I feel bad giggling: these people aren't evil

My buddy wanted a les paul and the exact one was round a mile from me. The advert looked like they had a powercut and I knew no one was bidding for it and they needed the sale

so I haggled them down and then when I called round to collect realised I had just bargained hard with a poor person who was desperate for the money

...it's always more complex than first impressions.

I had the same education from my mother.

these people aren't evil or good as far as what can be deduced from a random photo intended for other purpose. You don't have to laugh at them - you can laugh with them. A standard trope with the guitar building folks here on TDPRI over on that sub-forum is to include feet in at least one photo.

When I post a photo anywhere, I do make an effort to check the background, etc. for extraneous detail. I think there's a whole category of mime-like photos on the internet of unintended disclosures.

I've had a few times where I've had to sell instruments for needed cash. I don't hold it against the bargain hunter - I put myself in the tight spot, but I can see where you might feel uneasy. Good on ya, but wasn't your buddy happy?

I love the pix with the animals included. Some of my favorites.

Actually, at my day job I've been working long hours with little spare time, and last night this thread seemed like a fun way to relax.

...I guess that is a little scary... :D
