I may have just ruined my tone!

To save a few moments restringing my locking trem equipped shredder, I fed the plain strings through the machines rather than cutting off the ball ends.

I am now thinking there may be something off a bit with my tone...

The scientists on the directional cables thread expertly explained the tone altering influence of the 'chevron' effect on metal crystals imparted by the wire drawing process?

By reversing these strings I am now thinking I may have altered their magnetic symmetry somehow.

I am in a dilemma as I'm down to using up spare strings until a new box appears in a couple of days. So I can't experiment.

    Have I screwed up?

The ball end goes to saddle... Yes, they are directional, unless you are a shredder,

You have accomplished getting the Steinberger tone many headful guitar owners crave.

On a more serious note (I know!) - what would happen if you clamped half an inch of the thin, single core of the wound strings into the Edge Tremolo?

    Enquiring minds want to know...

I assumed unwinding problems and other unwanted effects.

I was actually interested in whether I should clamp the doubled up winding nearer the ball end or cutting further back into the narrower main body of the wound strings. My thought was there was more 'meat' of metal to clamp by cutting as close to the ball as reasonable.

Anyway, within a couple of minutes playing my 'reversed' top E snapped... so maybe there is something in it.

Put the strings in the freezer. That'll straighten out the chevrons and make the strings bidirectional.

I modded my phase shifter Saturday to spin backwards. Time stopped and moved backwards, then the battery died

Business op: Make a big magnetic coil, and put a bucket of liquid nitrogen in the center. dip packages of strings for 5 minutes of cryo-magnetic treatment. Sell for five times the cost of strings and materials.

If you are recording everything will be fine. Play it backwards and it will sound just like you wanted.

You might try laying hands on the strings and droning reverse thy electrical flow direction. Repeat about a thousand times, I think it'll work, check back. Do you know anything at all about tonewoods?

The wound ones are wound clockwise. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere it may make a difference. You are Okay on the bottom 2 or 3 depending on how special you consider the "G".

If you play the guitar upside down your original tone will be restored.

Bi strings do swing better! ;) :p

And, cryo strings actually already exist. So, sadly, no business opportunity there, unless you can figure out how to sell them cheaper, which isn't exactly the point, now is it?
