So dingos have a lot in common with lawyers, basically.

My grandkids used to say that line all the time, with a cheesy 'stralian accent, we would all laugh. Not that it is funny for the mom

Yes...we all knew. But, hey, you're 28 and a WHOLE BUNCH OF **** happened before you were born...including the dingo and baby thing. So, you're forgiven.

Yes, even in places like sweden we've seen the film knowing it is based on "questionable" real events.

That's how I remember the it. There was some scepticism if that really was what happened.

It really happened. The baby would be a 40 year old woman today had it not been eaten. Think about that.

the gutter presses went wild with theories... the family were JW's and churches at the time thought they were some weird cult,, and Azaria meant sacrifice to the wilderness or some such crap...

they were seen as guilty before the trials by public opinion...

oh yeah those weirdo JW's probably do stuff like that....

or they thought one of the other kids might have killed her and the Dingo story was a cover up...

they didn't want to believe a dingo would take a baby....

It sounds like a Frank Zappa song title.

Another thread about Aussie culture! This one captured the national imagination for a long time!

Dingos are beautiful wild dogs... have made some great pets, but probably better left on the other side of the Dingo Fence. (3x longer than the Great Wall of China - but maybe not so grand!)

You Yanks (sorry, its a wartime expression (WWII), and maybe not nice? - all the American soldiers visiting here had style and money, - charmed and dated the local girls, like my mum... silk stockings, what!)

anyway, you State-siders, might even work out soon that we are not a small country in Europe! lol. :)

PS really enjoyed the great Aussie song thread...
if only our folk/old time tradition was as rich and brilliant as that in the USA.

Poor Lindy Chamberlain, the mother, was 'hounded' by the press for many years, imprisoned, the case went on for ever it seemed. Eventually exonerated. A very tragic tale.

One of the main things that forced that saying into popular culture was Meryl Streep's inability to do a credible New Zealand accent in the movie Evil Angels.

While the events happened in Australia, Lindy Chamberlain was a New Zealander.

Speaking of WWII it seems strange how time flys

I remember during elementary school on Veterans Day A Lot of the Veterans that would come were from WWII era and the servicemen from the Vietnam era were around my parents age

Now there’s hardly any WWII vets left

No it's not. Most Aussies suspect something much more sinister.
Saw a dingo in Bali in 2001. My Indonesian mate made a joke about it.

I am of the opinion that it is highly disrespectful to make fun of what happened. In just recent history not sure how far back about 6-8months ago a dingo shooter came across Azaria's clothing at a site where numerous dingos have been known to have occupied near Ayres Rock for years. When this was all fresh in people's minds, the gutter press printed stories about blood in the Chamberlain's car behind the dash board which in reality turned out to be brake fluid or some such other lubricant which had leaked. and rubbish that she was sacrificed to God or some such crap!!! Lindy still breaks down in tears whenever she talks about it! ................."never let the truth spoil a good story!"

This really happened and was witnessed by Azaria's older brother who told his mother that the dingo "had their baby in his tummy!"

Please be respectful about this and think how you would feel if this had happened to you!

Ask yourself why was the mother jailed. What about the foetal blood found on the floor of the front seat of the car? There's more to this story than Lindy Chamberlain will ever let on.

BTW - I lived through all of this as a young adult. What's the joke i the saying. Please explain ( another Australian story in that question)?
