I just found out today that this phrase I’ve heard thousands of times is based on an actual event

There’s a movie on TCM about it right now

Dose everyone know this except for me?

Yes, something like a family was camping and the baby went missing and one of the theories was that a dingo ate it, right?

And also a funny line from Sienfeld

From what I gather from what I’ve seen in the little bit of this movie and what I looked up it seems that’s exactly what happened

Apparently the mother did some time but it was later proved that it was most likely really the dingo

Based on the death of baby girl Azaria Chamberlain and her mother's somewhat " cold' reaction. She maintains the dingo killed her baby. no body was found yet blood from inside the family car pointed to something sinister. Based on a true event. Dingoes on Fraser Island, Queensland, have been known to attack humans, but they are not a big dog and are generally shy of humans. They can be vicious.
Weird case. Family broke up and mother lives overseas.

If you made a drinking game out of the movie and drank every time they say “dingo” you’d be drunk within the first third of the movie

    Probably dead by the end

Dingoes are a pack animal.. you might only see one... but the others are watching you from all sides....

not to be trusted... as they are opportunists....

I don’t trust any wild animals for the most part

They may have my respect but not trust

Usually when incidents happen it’s from the opposite lack of respect and too much trust

    On a tangent I really distrust monkeys/apes

Are you sure it was a dingo and not a chupacabra?

    They do look different.

The chubacabra usually wears sunglasses and has a Los Straitjackets tattoo.

Considering the film came out about four years before you were born, we'll cut you some slack.
None of us are responsible for knowing anything that happened before we were born, right?
In fact......many youngsters didn't know about WWII until Saving Private Ryan came out......;)
