DIMEBAG 4 LIFE!

They met Phil right here in Shreveport, LA back in 87. It was because of the Pantera fans here that they even met Phil. Before he joined the band, they would come here ALLLLL the time and play shows at this bar called The Circle in the Square. Well Phil always came there with his band, Razor White, also. And so every time Dime & Vinnie & the guys came here, all of the fans would tell them about this guy Phil, the singer for Razor White, and how they need him in Pantera.

They finally agree to meet one night after a show here in Shreveport and as they say, THE REST IS HISTORY! Phil & the guys hit it off immediately and Phil joined the band. Fast forward to their first live gig together. That show was ALSO right here IN SHREVEPORT.

We were the VERY FIRST PEOPLE to see Pantera as we know them today. I imagine it was incredible, even back then.

Lots of people here in the Shreveport area knew Dime & Vince. They had a lot of friends here. Lucky for me, I met a guy that actually was friends with Dime. He's got old Dime Slime that he was given by Dime personally after he tried to kill himself back in the day. Dime signed it and brought it to him at the hospital. Today, it's his most prized possession. I'm hoping hell let me play it one day lol.

Anyway. I know this doesn't really add to the original topic. I'm a HUGE Dime & Pantera fan and they have such a connection to where I live, so I just figured I'd share that. Lol. Thanks for letting me share!

There’s a video of him doing a clinic in the mid 90’s that I like to watch from time to time

It shows how Grady his tech would work his effects from backstage, good team

As far as the squeals….That’s how you do it zakk! Not every other second!

They seemed to have known each other I wonder how many booze soaked conversations about harmonics they had?

Oh yea. Zakk and Dime were quite close, afaik. It's why Zakk plays 'In this River' at every show BLS plays. That, and because his fans require it of him lol. Zakk loved Darrell. He lost a great friend that day.

In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to find that 'Scars' is about Dime, too.

I don't even like Pantera but that new tour seems weird to me, how they're actually touring as Pantera and not as a tribute or something in that vein. I don't know, something about the whole thing just feels a little off to me as an outsider looking in.

I love Phil though, he was never my issue with Pantera. Wish he'd spend this Pantera time back out with DOWN or Scour instead, haha.

I guess most of the old fans will have the same reaction. Pantera without dime and vinnie ? It is not pantera.

I saw Pantera around year 2000 with the original Black Sabbath in Philadelphia, and I remember that Dimebag hit he highest note I’d ever heard played on a guitar.

It's up to the fans to decide whether they accept the new lineup as Pantera; however, I can't think of a better guitarist than Zakk Wilde to fill that slot. One thing he needs to do is resist the urge to copy Dimebag's solos note for a note. I know the hardcore fans will demand it, but that is what makes a cover band. Zakk should be himself, and play the songs the way he would play them.

This is probably not going to fly with the fans though.
