Tele-Afflicted
I bought this album the other day and all I can say is that i am thoroughly impressed. It is clear to hear thet Nick is still in garage-rock mode from the Grinderman side-project, but the imense soundscape of the entire Bad Seeds ensemble remains. It stil sounds rich and full, bit in a different way to Abbitour Blues/Lyre of Orpheus. Gone are the Choral back-up singers, replaced by distorted, fuzzy guitar and the increasing presence of Warren Ellis' violin (due to, I belive, his involvement in the 'Proposition' soundtrack)
The songs contain Cave's signature vitriol and refferences to literature, but like Abbitour/Orpheus, he sounds kinda happy (For Nick Cave). The album opens with the title track, a dirty, groovy number, punctuated by violin and all-male backup vocals. Other killer tracks include Todays Lesson, Albert Goes West, Called Upon the Author and More News from Nowhare.
the last track mantioned (and indeed, the final track on the album) is a personal favorite and well worth note. Not only a wonderfull, mellow song, but Cave manages to condense the story of the Odyssey in under 8 minutes. Well worth checking out.
Overall, i highly reccomend this to all Cave fans, or anyone who is into something different.
Oh yeah, and Cave's long time guitarist, Mick Hrvey, has been known to use a Telecasater.
