You need to gig it loud!

It's actually a 40 watt amp, it can do it.
And then the stock speaker loosens up.
It's not all that bad but you don't get a £70 OEM speaker in a £140 amp.

Also try turning the hidden noise gate off. Press Bypass(FX off) then Press&hold Edit-1 button and turn Edit-2 knob to zero, release. That gate is a waste of milk, it ruins touch sensitivity by removing small signals

Also turn the power limiter on the back to near-maximum to "open up" the sound of the amp, otherwise it sounds congested. Use the MV.

Very few of the pots are pots, they're effectively rotary switches telling the computer chip what to do, as does that starved plate valve, it does not amplify.

The OP's question is really resonate with something I've been going through recently. I have a 1971 Princeton. I love it....but I like how it sounds even better with a dirtbox set to just barely breaking up. I sort of feel bad sometimes, but then I remember: if it sounds good, be happy!

I disagree. The reason Chuck Berry sounds like T-Bone and the reason Peter Green soudns like BB is exactly because they were trying to rip their heroes off!

everyone has heroes. but i don't think chuck berry was taking apart his guitar and amp to get the tone just right. i'm just saying we obsess over this stuff way more than we should. falling short of your idol's tone is a good thing... because then it's your tone

Elegantly expressed. I wish I had said it first.

It's like taking a motorcycle apart until all you have left is a bucket of noise.

"Bucket of Noise." That's the new Z-Vex pedal, right?
