Did you guys know DLR can actually play guitar pretty decently?

No. But in a way I'm not surprised. I recently found out that there are a lot of people who play guitar! Who knew?!

    :p

He's been around some pretty great guitar players for the last 40 years- I guess some of it must have rubbed off on him during that time.

Well, I wouldn't rave about his playing here, but he does seem to do bluegrass pretty well.

Ice Cream Man is the first VH song I ever heard.
I was at lunch from my day job, and I heard it on my truck radio, I guess it was around 77 or 78.
I erroneously thought VH was ls a Dutch shredder band, a la Focus.
I thought the singer was amazing, and the guitar playing made me pull over.
    DLR is the consummate performer.
Though I never really got into VH, their artistry is unmatched in their style.
    It was “their” style, too.
For sheer “firepower” of skill, I think Queen is their only peer.

Maybe he could get a gig playing bass (and some background vocals) for Van Halen?

I saw him swat a flattop on Ice Cream Man, and recall he was more than competent. This was after he whipped an arena into a frenzy. Seems silly today, but he was the best in his prime.

Dave actually had a custom guitar shaped like an Ice cream Popsicle

He can't even hit his own high notes anymore, let alone harmonizing above them.

First concert I ever saw was Vh opening for Black Sabbath, and most folks In the audience had never heard of VH before. Of course they played Ice Cream Man, and Diamond Dave did just fine job there next to Eddie.

Love that these folks were the first performers I ever saw in concert. Still have the ticket stub. It was like $14.

Harmonica sounds way better than the guitar, not that it was bad....but that harmonica sounded popping

It's not so easy when you're over 60 to do the things you did when you were just over 20.

If you don't believe me now, you will. Wait for it.

There's this video on Youtube of two teenagers, a brother and sister reacting to "Unchained" the live version and when Dave does his signature jumps the girl goes "Holy **** how is he able to be as flexible like that? I'm a ballet dancer and I can't do such leaps!"

Well Dave has been a Martial Artist and a highly trained athlete in those days.
