I know the song is accredited to Pete Ham but every time I hear it, I feel like I hear Paul's hands all over it. Maybe it's my imagination. What do you think?

    I think not.

Peter Ham was a very good composer in his own right. He wrote "No Matter What", "Day After Day" and "Baby Blue" as well as co-writing "Without You", a song that Harry Nilsson covered.

McCartney did write "Come and Get It", a big Badfinger hit.

If you want to hear another composer that wrote songs that sounded very Beatles-like, check out Neil Innes.

I just went through a chunk of Neil Innes' playlist and I'm not hearing what you're hearing...

I believe George Harrison was more involved with Badfinger, having done some production work for them.

Well, Harrison did produce and played on some of their songs but McCartney was involved as well and, in fact, Pete Ham and Tom Evans were singing background on Ringo's "It Don'y Come Easy", which Harrison co-wrote with him.

George Harrison played on and produced Badfinger's Day After Day.

I’d bet Badfinger were just simply very influenced by their mentors/sponsors, the Beatles.
Probably Paul and George in particular.
Badfinger were brilliant, and their story is ultimately very tragic.

Have you watched The Rutles film All You Need is Cash? Innes wrote the very Beatle-esque music for it. George Harrison made a cameo in it, and Lennon advised them not to include "Get Up and Go" on the soundtrack album, as he thought it was too close to "Get Back" and risked being sued by Ron Decline, err Allen Klein.

Weren't Badfinger credited with "Guitars" on the All Things Must Pass LP?

While I do hear “influence” I don’t think it was a collaboration. Hamm was a monster writer. Put me down as a huge fan of Badfinger

The story of Badfinger is one of the saddest in rock and roll.

The first time I heard that song, before I even knew who it was, I thought it was from one of the Beatles' solo albums.

Yeah, I just read the Wikipedia article again. I read it a while ago. They should make a movie about that.

I agree and think it would be very hard not to have been influenced by those studio experiences, as well as the timing perhaps increasing the odds of trending toward a similar sound.
"Produced by" and/or "co-written with" and now we have have better knowledge of how this works, at minimum maybe?
Not taking anything away from the guys, but the "proof is in the pudding" so to speak.

And to be fully honest, I not only liked some of their stuff, I'll go as far as to say some of it was far better than...

OK, sorry I went there already...
