I was getting ready to wire up my new tele and had too much crap on my bench. When I got done setting everything up I looked over and the bridge pickup was stuck to a humbucker from another guitar that was laying on the bench. I'm guessing they were like that for 3-5 minutes before I noticed. It must have happened while I was carelessly setting up.

Should I be worried about this? Did I degauss my brand new Don Mare pickup?

This weeks free advice add shows Lindy Fralin who warns about contact with metal filings, de-magnitisation and particularly close contact of pickups with any others. Try that and it is quite probable that the polarities/ contact may have damaged 1 or 2 p/ups. according to him. JMHO

It'd take a much stronger magnetic pull than than to degauss alnico/ceramic.

stuck the back of a speaker maybe...

Plus if they are stuck together, then the poles aren't opposed and won't degauss...

P.S. That's stewmac.com or the Gallop guitar school's latest info. Sorry about the omission/mistake it's been 44*C (112*F ) here for a week. I hope this helps and I hope you haven't permanent magnet damage- but I think It's possible. Cheers!

You're good. The strength of the magnets in those pickups aren't enough to do any damage from incidental contact like that.

Seems to me that I saw a video of a Seymour Duncan's factory walkthrough, and they kept their finished pups together in bins - didn't worry about degaussing

If you have to ask, the answer is yes, you screwed them up. Now throw them in the trash and buy new ones and this time leave them alone.

Bin them! What crap. If (and a big if) you have demagnetised them you can remagnetise them just as easily.

112!?! You could probably de-Gauss magnets in your driveway with temps like that!
The OP, OTOH is probably OK with his pickups ;)

Surely the correct etiquette for this response is: Yes, send them to me and I'll dispose of them for you:D

I'm sure it's fine, and remagnetizing is very easy to do in case you did do anything.

The stronger the MAG the shorter the window in time. My pickup box has separators to be safe as it sits year after year with pickups in it. So I try to make sure they sit a few inches apart in the tool box I use for the purpose.

I have to guess a NEO magnet with you PUP stuck to it would still take a while to change the properties. Guess I am suggesting longer than a few minutes on the bench...

I doubt it did a thing to them I use 4 strong nemodium magents to stacked on each side just to magnitize them. 2 stacked on each side. It takes a lot to start messing with the magnitization of them.

If your that worried about it. Spend 10 bucks on p48 or p 50 neomodium magnets at amazon. Do some reseach and watch dan erlewines stewart mac video and remagnitize them.

    About three seconds.

That's how long it takes to change the polarity. You feel it repel for the first second, attract in the second second, and in the third second you're done.
