Yeah, my title is kinda "click bait".....but @Lone_Poor_Boy's post made me to decide to write this, and I didn't want to derail his thread.
I've mentioned in passing about recently buying a Fishman SA 330x PA, used, from GC. I bought online, and at the time, they had two posted. (at different locations) One was $550, for JUST the PA unit and stand. The other was $600, and showed pics of the unit, stand, and the Fishman SA Expand, which is the add-on four channel mixer......which is a $200 (new) value, and adds four extra channels to the unit's two channels.
So, obviously, I bought the one with the mixer. It was shipped to my local GC, and when it came in, I went to pick it up. It looked great......super clean, and included an upgraded rolling bag.....but NO mixer. I talked to the manager, (James) and he was very nice and polite, and looked at the pics I had printed out, which clearly showed the mixer. He was apologetic, and said he would make some calls. I went ahead and took the PA, cause I didn't want to take a chance of IT disappearing. He reported the next day, that the originating store couldn't find it, and they would do some looking. Long story short, no one can find it anywhere. I had told James about the two units, and their price differences ($50) and asked what they would do. He offered me a refund of $100, or return the unit for a full refund. These little PAs are hard to find used right now, and $500 ($600-100=$500) is not a bad price. I can't find a used SA Expand at ANY price, but I CAN get a decent four channel mixer for the $100. I have no doubt someone at the originating GC swiped it, or sold it, or something......but there's nothing I can do. Opinions? I haven't had a chance to USE it yet, although I set it up and tested it pretty well. It's a really cool PA.....some of you (@magicfingers99) have this one or its predecessor, the SA 220. So, did I cave too soon with GC?

You did fine. No use having your soul tied up in a fight over $50. GC did the right thing with the refund and offer to cancel.

I posted in the other thread that I've done well buying through GC used, but each transaction has had its own, um, personality. I have found it helpful to call the store before I order something, and have a salesperson go look at it and tell me about it. Lots of times the pictures and model numbers don't agree, and surprises can go either way.

If it were me, I wouldn’t sweat that, provided you like the system ok. You should have 45 days (or whatever it is this week) to return it anyway, if you find you don’t like it (pretty sure that applies to used stuff too, but I may be wrong).

    Seems reasonable.

    After all, it's only money.

Eh, people screw up. James did offer/give you twice the difference, so at the very least, it seems your local store was acting in good faith.

I had something similar happen with an autoparts vendor. Hard-to-get remaining NOS parts disappear after I verify with sales and their warehouse that they have the NOS original ones vs. crappy aftermarket versions. Short story: long delay, order never ships, NOS parts nowhere to be found.

Fairly confident that one of the people working there scooped them once someone realized what they were about to ship to me. Not much I could do about it. Oh, except cross them off my preferred vendor list.

At least GC gave you a nice discount for the shenanigans.

Pictures on GC's used site are sometimes wrong, I'll bet that's what happened.

I once bought an Epi Casino from them based on the fact that the photo was of a Japanese model.

When I went to the store to pick it up, the guitar they handed me was a Casino that was the same color, but it wasn't the one in the picture (it was MIC). At first they gave me some sort of halfassed BS story which ticked me off that they thought they could sell me such an obvious lie, but when I finally talked to the store manager he leveled with me and told me their computer system was ancient and you'd sometimes end up with the wrong picture. He apologized, they refunded my money and we were straight.

If you spend enough time on the used site, you see that kind of stuff from time to time- a listing for a microphone with a picture of a drum stool, that sort of thing.

The saving grace of all of this is that, as you discovered, the stores are generally pretty cool about returns.

I've told this story before, but I once called a GC store about a '60s Ampeg and was told the amp was in great shape and sounded awesome! When it arrived it was in barn find condition, didn't work, and had a literal rat's nest inside (as in, a rodent had been living in it). My local store took it back no problem, though.

I didn't make myself as clear as I should have......James (the manager) seemed to be very concerned and helpful to me, in a situation that was NONE of his doing. As he said several times when I expressed that to him, he said yeah...it's part of my job. He deserves some recognition for that.
I understand about the pictures, but in this case the pics WERE of the correct item. One showed a very slight scuff on the main unit that matched what I got, and the SA Expand was pictured with the same, pretty distinctive background, so the pics were taken at the same time.
I think I'm gonna be happy with this.....it just bothers me that somewhere, "someone" made off with with something I was supposed to have. :):):)

Since you were offered the option of $100 refund or returning the item, I'm at a loss as to how you think you were "swindled."

GC/MF have been up to shady business practices for a while now. I bought. A deal of the day Gretsch a while back and there’s no way it should have passed QC. I’d take the hundo and buy that mixer.

Best to call ‘em, particularly on used stuff. I’ve seen a picture on their site of a Jackson Soloist, but the description was for a Les Paul R9.

I said in the original post's first sentence....."click bait".
The only real complaint is that the purchase I made was SUPPOSED to include the SA Expand, (mixer) and the $100 will not cover the purchase of one elsewhere. Of course I could have refused to accept, and gotten a full refund, and could STILL return it now.....but I want the item I thought I was buying, WITH the Expand, as it was represented.....AND I want my cake and eat it too!!!! ;) (not to mention World peace and a chicken in every pot)
You've been here a while, teletail.....you know how this game is played. :):):)

Disappointing-whoever handled the transfer at the original store should have caught it. On the other hand with business’ being what they are these days that person probably has got more on his plate than 2 or 3 people could handle.

I think both you and your end’s GC manager handled the problem the best way it could be handled-like gentlemen/persons in a calm professional and respectful manner. Good on both of you. We need more of that. Best of luck with the new PA! G :)

I'm presuming you simply pushed the button and bought it. I must say it's odd that they had no record of it at all. However, FWIW, my exp in online GC used is that sometimes, just because it says "in stock" and even gives you the button to buy it, that doesn't mean it actually is available. Also, need to confirm that what is pictured is actually what they have, cause sometimes the pics are wrong too. I've been running into this a lot with them, lately. Best to simply pick up the phone and call the store selling XYZ and have them double check all this first. FWIW. Can't tell you how many times I've found a deal and called them and they say "sorry, that was sold 3 days ago but the system hasn't updated online... thanks for letting us know."

You didn't get swindled. GC offered you two remedies and both were fair and reasonable.

They didn't ever SAY they had no record of it.....they just said the mixer couldn't be found. (I think there's a difference there) And yes.....I thought it was a good value, and didn't want to waste time making a phone call....I clicked the button. And, everyone who said I should have verified better are correct. If it had been someone other than GC I would have. I wanted to have it delivered to store rather than home, so I could inspect it. I paid with PayPal for a little extra assurance, and while it's been YEARS since I've bought anything like this from GC, I was fairly confident it would end up OK.
To all of you who took exception to the term "swindle"......I'm sorry you didn't get the joke. I forgot that the full moon was this past Wednesday, and sometimes folk's senses of humor vanish around that time, and I apologize. Thanks to all for comments. ;)

Yep. I'd much rather have something I can enjoy than money just sitting there doing nothing. Lol

So I buy stuff when I want it. Why not? In the last month, I've probably bought 7 pedals lol. And I've still got another on the way from Japan. The last one from there got here in 9 days!

Also, lately it seems that when I decide to make a purchase that empties my "have fun" fund, it always seems to refill somehow. That's after me debating whether to spend everything I have or not. I always do and somehow, I always build the fund back up fairly quickly. Works for me!

Ah... I see. Sorry I guess I misread that. I was just giving you my exp with their online used stuff lately, and hope it helped confirm a thing or two with perhaps some of what you exp ;)
