Hi folks,

I just purchased a used Deluxe Reverb '65 blackface (made in 2016) and after the amp has been on for a while, the reverb level drops all of of a sudden. When I turn it off and back on, the problem disappears and the reverb level goes back to normal. Has anyone encountered this problem? Could it be the tubes? Any help would be appreciated.

Just the reverb itself or all of the signal through the vibrato channel? If it's just the reverb, I'd try swapping in a known good 12AT7 in V3 and then a 12AX7 in V4 before doing anything else.

I replaced the 12AT7 tube in V3 and this did not solve the problem. When plugged into channel 2 (Vibrato) input 1, after a while, the reverb level drops considerably. The only way to return to normal reverb levels is to turn the amp off/on or turn the standby switch off/on. Should I bring it in to get it serviced?

I’ve had the same problem. I didn’t use the amp for a couple of months. Now it is working fine. I don’t know how or why but I am waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Check the switching foot switch jack, the contact can loosen up and you then loose the reverb feed.
If you can plug in the foot switch and activate it then its definitely the jack contacts.

I have a similar problem where half the time the reverb doesn't work at all, or is extremely dim. I unplug and replug the footswitch cord on the back. which creates a loud pop but usually turns the reverb back on. I already opened up and checked the footswitch cord's male jack and it was OK. The problem must be with the FS input jack on the amp, but I'm too lazy to open up the amp to fix it.

It's been a while. Have you solved this?

If not, does it work fine without the reverb pedal plugged in? The cable is low quality, fails and causes the issue that you described.

Yes, the reverb jacks are not as good as the old all metal ones. They often dont grip well on the outside of the amp jack.

Left the amp with a tech and he did not manage to reproduce the problem. He checked all of the tubes and they were fine. He mentionned that he left the amp on for a few hours everyday and everynow and then would tap the end of a plug-in patchcord to verity the presence of reverb. As an fyi, this issue happened after I unplugged the foot switch. 😕

Just to follow up on this issue, I was able to find the cause of my reverb cutting out on the 68 DRRI. I opened up the amp to take a look at the footswitch jack. I was certain that there would be something wrong with it (loose nut, etc.) well, it was perfectly fine. Then I took out the reverb tank and checked out the continuity of the RCA cables with the multimeter. Sure enough, there was something wrong with the white cable, the readings were cutting out. It looked like the sharp 90 degree bend of the cable (where it connected it to the tank inside the pouch) caused the failure. Fender could have easily used a right angle connector to avoid this issue. Replaced the RCA cable and the reverb works well now.
