Can Deft SS be used over top of acrylic lacquer if the lacquer has cured long enough? If so, how long should the lacquer cure before applying the SS? Would a week be sufficient?

I would test a scrap first to be safe, but I have used Deft on top of Duplicolor acrylic lacquer auto paints with no problem. A week should be more than enough time.

Cool, I'll test on a scrap over the next couple days to be sure. I'll be putting it over Rustoleum Black Specialty Lacquer (their ultra-shiny black acrylic lacquer).

I realized after I sprayed it that there were still alot of little sanding marks in the wood (even though I had used 100, 120, 220 and 320 when I stripped off the old finish).

So I knocked the black lacquer down to a matte finish w/ 0000 steel wool, which took out probably 80-90% of the scratches since the lacquer filled most of them in. I just want to use the sanding sealer to finish leveling the surface off without having to strip the front & back of the guitar back down to bare wood again.

Once I use the SS, I'll top it off w/ some Deft gloss nitro.

Update:

The black lacquer must have been thinner than I thought, because the coat of sanding sealer seemed to make certain areas of it brown and translucent enough to see the grain underneath, as well as being a bit mottled, color-wise. I ended up stripping it all off last night :(

Live & learn, I suppose!
